Re: The power of nostalgia

John, I sure do admire your Rogers collection. Maybe someday I'll have a Rogers kit again...

Re: Joe Morello on Buddy Rich Part 3

I guess more would tune in to watch a "drum battle" than a drum duet.

Re: leaving the kick beater on the bass head?

Matt,

Thank you for taking the time to offer your insights. It's appreciated, and makes a lot of sense.

Re: Joe Morello on Buddy Rich Part 3

I was fortunate to see Buddy Rich and his band a few times in person.

Folks tend to talk about the big, busy stuff that Buddy played, whether in praise or criticizing. But the thing is, if you'd...

Re: leaving the kick beater on the bass head?

Over the years I've read numerous threads praising Matt's DVD, yet I've never purchased a copy. :(

Recently, all of the reviews for JoJo's new DVD are very positive. You all can see the question...

Re: Yahoo.com 10 legendary rock drummers..

I can't stand lists such as these, "ranking" musicians as if they're prizefighters or something.

And yet I always take the bait and read them. Kind of like opening the milk carton past the...

Re: Carl Palmer in Rhode Island: “I’m a Working Musician”

Carl Palmer is an endorser of Ludwig Drums. Still listed on their artist roster.

Re: The power of nostalgia

Nostalgia is that wonderful part of our mind that emphasizes the fond parts of memories past.

Regarding drums, for me it's Rogers. In my early drumming years as I was banging away on the really...

Re: playing less and keeping time

Yeah, that too. Ever notice that the singer is usually the first one to notice if the tempo is changing?

Re: Rack Tom as floor Tom

After seeing the tom sizes in your picture, I'd stay with the one up, two down set up, but that's just my preference /comfort.

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

Seems to be slim pickings on keyboard players in my area.

Re: Brian Tichy: The Importance of Consistency

Very well said Les. It's obvious the drummer, should keep good time, but like you said, all in the band should.

I think we could say one of the most important, or the most important thing for the...

Re: Rack Tom as floor Tom

When I use all three of my toms (I'm currently playing my kit as a four piece ) I set it up the way you describe. I place the two mounted toms to the left of the bass drum. I like it a lot.

Re: Rack Tom as floor Tom

Maybe it's just me, but a little clarification would help. Your first statement / question in your post asked what we think of using a 14" rack tom as a floor tom to accommodate your ride cymbal...

Re: suggestions for best rods and brushes

If you're joining a swing band and need brushes, nylon would be a poor choice. Go with wire brushes, they pick up the sound of the snare much better. Tony just gave you a fine suggestion. The Steve...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - Guru results, Bermuda's Review!

I think my favorite comment made by Bermuda (mentioned by Andy) in one of his reviews on the drum was that after 90 + snare drums in his collection it's hard to get excited over one anymore. The Guru...

Missing posts-What happened?

I logged on today and the upper right of my screen reads, "You last visited 11-18-14"; I've been on Saturday and yesterday since the site recovered.

I also notice a fair bit of missing posts from...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - The/our results!

Yeah, I guess all of us knows what it's like trying to play a snare drum that feels like a sack of wet cement.

Re: Ok, do your worst ;)

I'm going to jump in line behind Bo and TapTaior here, and I say it with a smile. A humble spirit is a good thing, but you pretty much always go to self deprecation regarding your playing, and you're...

Re: 2014 Snare Drum Olympics - The/our results!

First time ever in the Snare Drum Olympics; 3rd place overall and 2nd in your category? If I remember correctly in your first thread on the subject, this was kind of a "dip the toe in the water" for...
