Re: slingerland tom project - where to start?

On the shells I've stained I ran into some glue spots like those and sandpaper did the job just fine. I think I wound up useing 250 grit on the toughest spots, and then really fine grit just to go...

Re: Happy Birthday Keith

Happy belated birthday Keith. During the closing ceremony at the Olympics a few weeks ago I couldn't help but wonder what it would have been like if moonie had played. He's definetly been one of my...

Re: What's your favourite voice?

I'd go snare as well. A mediocre sounding tom or bass drum is something I can live with, but the snare has to be the way I like it. I'm willing to bet most drummers would agree. Always liked the...

Re: Evans G1 batter head

I want to try the Aquarians too, I've heard really good stuff about their heads, probably give em a try after the Evans wear out.

Re: heeeeere's yer sign

How bout the shirt with a picture of a drumkit on it and it just says "bang me" in big letters below it? I knew a kid who had one and it was good for a laugh.

Re: Evans G1 batter head

I think I'll go for a G1 over G1 combo next time I change heads then. It sounds like it should be just fine. I know that the ambassador over ambassador combo has always been very popular over the...

Evans G1 batter head

Do any of you guys/gals use Evans G1 heads on the batter side of your toms? I'm running Remo emperors over ambassadors right now, and when I change heads next time I'm looking to do something a...

Re: What brand of kit do you play?

Percussion Plus, its my first kit. Got if off a friend for about 20 bucks so it was a steal if you ask me. It works just fine for playing along to music in my garage and the occasional jam session.

Re: Sami Kuoppamäki

I just looked up Kumu drums, they are amazing looking and sounding drums. I always loved the sound of his kit. I think he's a prime example of a guy that can take a simple 4 piece kit and make it...

Re: Two Piece Bands

Since everyone is throwing out bands names I'll jump in too. Check out a band called Local H. You might have heard a couple of their songs on the radio back in the 90s. I saw them play live recently...

Re: All time favorite Album.

Cant give a definitive number 1 either, but I can narrow it down to a few:

-The Who's Live at Leeds album, one of if not the best live performance ever IMO
-Exile on Main st. and Sticky Fingers...

Re: Hihat feels too hard and tight when hit. Tips?

Perhaps you have the clutch too tight on the top hat? I keep mine fairly loose, it definitely has a different feel and sound vs when the clutch is as snug as it can get against the cymbal.

Re: your throw off ....where is it?

At 3 o'clock. I guess its kindof a strange place to have it seeing I'm a righty, but I've kept it there out of habbit.

Re: Cozy Powell

Neat interview I found while poking around the other day, sorry if its been posted elsewhere, but defiantly give it a read if you've got the time. He talks a lot about his younger days before he came...

Re: Ringing overtones on a cheap kit

Well its taken me half my weekend, but I think I finally figured this drum out. The ringing is gone, and the overtones are finally under control. I wound up re-tuning the entire kit and it's sounding...

Re: Ringing overtones on a cheap kit

To be honest I'm not sure what the exact model of the kit is. I feel like its an older kit, I got it used off of a friend and the only makings on it simply say pdp. This is the first re-skin of the...

Re: Ringing overtones on a cheap kit

Thanks for the responses so far guys. I'll probably invest in some moon gels and the rings that you are talking about to see if they can keep the ringing and overtones under control. I just bought...

Ringing overtones on a cheap kit

I've been really unhappy with the sound of my entry level pdp drum kit so recently I've been trying out some different tuning combinations. The main issue I'm having is with the 16 inch floor tom....

Sami Kuoppamäki

Anyone here a fan of Sami Kuoppamäki? He played with the band Kingston wall in the late 80s/early 90s and I've always appreciated his playing. I can't find much on him but I figured maybe there were...

Re: Ludwig Speed King Question

I just bought an old speed king off a friend. Most of you probably won't believe me but it doesn't squeak one bit. I was shocked, its in near perfect condition and it had just been laying around in...

Re: What brand of kit do you play?

Entry level PDP drums, its my first kit. Doesn't sound particularly good even with new heads on it, and the bass drum is from a different kit so the wraping doesn't match. I got it off a friend for...

Re: Bands with two drummers

Never really liked it too much. I've never seen a showing of two drummers that justified why they had to have two, I'm probably missing out on something really impressive but thats just been my...
