Re: Heavy music, where did the ride go?

Good lord, Phil is amazing. My band band opened up for Revocation a couple times over the past couple years here in St Louis. Always a guaranteed killer show! I'm glad you mentioned him, because he's...

That was sooooo awesome. Thanks for sharing! Absolutely love seeing Tony in high quality like that. And damn, that Chick solo was ridiculous!

Re: ALBUMS THAT HAD AN LASTING IMPACT ON YOUR DRUMMING

Thank for this list! Just checked out Nik Kershaw for the first time- I'd never heard of him. Classic, killing, studio Vinnie.

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I enjoy guys like Troy Wright, because he'll oftentimes post up his transcriptions along with his videos. Then it's more than just a wank-fest.

Re: Version 2.0: deceptively challenging drum tracks

Excellent idea here. Man In A Box is fantastic; I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for AIC.

I'll throw one in from the same era- Interstate Love Song by The Stone Temple Pilots. Eric Kretz...

Re: Modern Metal songs with the "best" Drums

The album that that song is from, "Teratogenesis", is free,...

Re: Jazz players - did we get this right?

I can absolutely hear the first tuning as a great contemporary big band kit, a la UNT One 'O Clock Lab Band style. Very nice. For my personal taste, I like more of the Bill Stewart sound for a small...

Re: Snare Drums: Triple Flanged vs. Die Cast Hoops

Only tangentially related, but I have a 6.5X14" Supraphonic that I put a set of Yamaha aluminum die-cast hoops on (very light, yet still rigid). I absolutely love the sound of this drum with these...

Re: rare yamaha stage custom ive bought

The Stage Custom line of drums certainly aren't rare, but I am surprised to see "Made in Japan" on the badge...never seen that on a Stage Custom before.

Re: ...for the jazz cats ...

Just ran across this for the first time in a loooong time, thought I'd share. Not a huge fan anymore, but anything pre-1995 Dave is still totally killer in my book.

His solo fills @ 4:50 are so...

Re: Who Are The Most Melodic Drummers?

That Max solo is so nasty.

I'll throw a different name into the mix- Matt Cameron. Especially in the good 'ol Soundgarden days, he's got such a tasty and melodic approach to rock drumming.

Re: Playing two different styles jazz and metal - technical problems

I agree completely with this. I'm in the same boat (jazz master's degree, but also play in a tech metal band), and I strive to sound authentic in both genres equally. I've spent just about as much...

Re: Odd-time songs that sound natural

Chris Potter's entire album, "Traveling Mercies". There is some SUPERB Bill Stewart effortless-odd-time playing going on throughout. Highly recommended.

Yeah, so this 8-year old kid sounds exactly like Tony Williams.

This is currently blowing my mind. 8-year old Kojo Odu Roney...has anyone heard of this kid? This is some of the best Tony Williams-inspired playing I've ever heard. Insane.

Reading this thread makes me sooooo happy that I special-ordered my 20X14" Maple Custom Absolute kick drum back in '05. I have no doubt that the new tubs will be great, but it's undoubtedly the end...
