Re: Brother DR-210CL Four Drum Trouble

Do you mean "Magenta"? That's the one that is reddish-purple.

(not sure if actual question, or a troll)

Re: Playing Someone Else's Kit

Make sure you bring along the things that are the most "personalized", if that makes sense. Snare, bass drum pedal, cymbals, sticks (natch), and maybe your own hi-hat stand. This way you can try to...

Re: 'Open handed' hi hat speed tips?

When you play "two-handed" on the hi-hat, do you mean something like playing a sixteenth note pattern on the hats? Like this?

Hihat | xxxx -xxx xxxx -xxx |
Snare | ---- x--- ---- x--- | ...

Re: Tom Mount Help - '70's Concert Toms

Ludwig ATLAS mounts would be perfect if you don't want to drill any holes. They replace one of the lugs and let you use a normal L-rod tom arm that can be positioned how you like.

The only...

Re: Odd time signature songs for beginners

"Money" by Pink Floyd is a good one to start with. It's in 7/4, has a clear bass line to follow/hum along to, and it has a good cue at the end of each measure (there is a crash on 7 and 1 during most...

Re: Anyone own of have experience with Atlas Mounting hardware?

I replaced the tom mounts on my Gretsch Renown kit (the pre-2013 model with the RIMS-style wrap around bands) with the ATLAS mounts and love, love, love them.

I also have a short ATLAS arm that...

Re: Help identify this CL deal. (3-piece shell pack)

Not a bad idea at all. You could even cut each tom in half and make a full 5 piece practice kit with mesh heads, and eventually add triggers to make an electronic kit.

Re: Help identify this CL deal. (3-piece shell pack)

Looks like a really cheap set that someone stripped the wrap from and did a piss-poor attempt at a fade. You can see where there are holes where the bass drum legs used to be (I'm guessing that the...

Re: The official, "Your services are no longer required" thread

Sorry to hear that. This was totally a case of "penny wise and pound foolish".

Corporate always swoops in and messes up things that work. It's all about micro-management. If the department is...

Re: BPM recall ability

I have one of those and while it had potential, it really isn't that great of a device. The actual interface is clunky (the tap tempo button requires a lot of force to press so that using it to...

Re: DW and Gretsch

Wow, I'm kind of in a daze right now. I really hope DW doesn't "DW-ize" Gretsch as a brand.

Re: Does playing covers change you?

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned Billie Jean. That is the quintessential example of "pounding 2&4". Every once in a while I listen to that song and I'm amazed at the layering and the precision...

Re: Does playing covers change you?

I agree. For covers, I usually create a cheat sheet with the song structure and the "signature bits" like the groove, prominent fills, etc. I play the groove and fill as needed with my own...

Re: Making a kit

Yeah, that's what the ebook is focused on. It's geared toward someone like GRAVITY_GUY02 who wants to just get a pre-made shell, lugs, rims, and other hardware and assemble it themselves. Selecting...

Re: Making a kit

It will definitely cost more to do it that way (and take longer) but at the end you will have something that is completely personalized. Start with a snare drum and if that turns out well then I say...

Re: DrumMaker.com/Andy Foote - Experience in dealing with them??

If they did have issues like they say they did (it happens to everyone), then the right thing to do would have been to contact their customers, let them know the situation, and ask for everyone's...

Re: Smaller Kits

The "Player's kit" from Sonor seems like it would be a good fit. It's a Sam Ash exclusive with a 20x12 bass drum, a 14x12 floor tom, and a 10x8 rack tom. It has a very small footprint but the drums...

Re: Anyone else dislike suspension mounts?

Hate them, too. You can't position the toms close enough together and head changes are a pain. I switched to Ludgwig Atlas mounts on my rack toms a while back and I love them. No drilling and the...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta back with Yamaha?

He also doesn't have to have an endorsement deal at all, he just has to have some language in his performance rider like this:

Promoter must provide Manufacturer X drums in sizes (insert sizes...

Re: Putting band name on kick drum head, with multiple bands?

I second that one. I'm thinking of a design for my kick that doesn't have the band name/logo on it but a personal logo or design. I've seen a couple of really classy looking ones lately and I'd like...

Re: Band members with bad timing

You've got to make a pact with the bass player to keep the time solid. If the two of you are in sync, then the rest of the band pretty much has to follow.

My bass player and I are lucky because we...

Re: Sonor Safari or Bop

I agree with the Player's kit. That 20x12 kick sounds nice and I can imagine it working in a lot more situations than a 16 or 18.

I have tried this before, but I couldn't get the hang of entering what I want to quickly. Speed and keyboard navigation is really important to me, since I would rather not have to drag and drop items...
