Re: Al Jackson jr break in Turn You Loose. . . sounds simple . . .

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

[QUOTE=Drumsinhisheart;1232219]

"I, too, have wondered about the status Steve Gadd rose to. Excellent drummer. I just wonder what made him, as well as Peart, the icons they have become."

Go...

Re: Have you ever used strategic cymbal placement to shield yourself from rain when playing outdoors

Re: What do you say when....

Roy Burns (Aquarian) once wrote something like: "Thanks for the feedback, I know I suck, but how can I stop all these guys from calling me for gigs?"

Re: Strange little professional problem

Well, if the gig pays $400 I'd chip in...if it pays $100 No way!

Re: Groove essentials

If you don't like the iTunes fix...download Audacity. It's a free download and can slow things down. It's all well and good to practice slowly, but some of Tommy's tempos are way beyond me. I'll keep...

Re: 10 lesser known but oft heard drummers

Harvey Mason!!! Why is this guy left off most lists? Studio, Funk, Fusion, Academy Awards Orchestra, Movie Soundtracks, Rock. The Rodney Dangerfield of drummers.

Re: The death of retail music stores

I think this is happening because the stores are forced to buy product before they can sell it. My understanding is that the manufacturers used to front the product to the store and get paid after...

Re: For those in cover bands, how much do you stray from the original drum parts?

In "the old days" several different bands would "cover" the same popular tune at the same time. The arrangements would change, IE: Miller might feature the sax section while James featured the...

Re: Is there a polite way to decline help setting up your drums?

I always say: "it takes more time for me to explain to you how to do it than to do it myself".

Re: Drumming Nightmares

my nightmare always involves gear set up. Either I have to move the whole kit or something is missing that I can't find and can't play without. Just a variation on the "late for work" thing, I guess

Re: The aging musician

I'm 5 years younger than Gadd. I figure after he stops I'll have 5 more years, but that guy doesn't seem to have any physical problems (that I know of), he'll probably outlast me....

I was 31 (glad there is at least one person replying that's older than me) making the transition from bar bands and original band (yes, one could find gigs where you could play 3 sets of original...

Re: Heel Up - How to do quick double hits?

[QUOTE=wildbill;1100042]Do you do both hits with a downward motion of your leg?

Re: Have you ever temporarily stopped drumming due to health issues?

I played along with records after my surgery. That gave me confidence that I could still play (and was fun). After I started gigging again I resumed a normal practice routine.
