Re: YOUR BETTER AT BECAUSE OF DRUMS

It has also been interesting to me to find how my music listening has changed. I am now much more analytic in my first or second listening to a new piece of music. Musicians hear (or attend to)...

Re: YOUR BETTER AT BECAUSE OF DRUMS

Great answer. Break a difficult thing down, practice it slowly, speed up making minimum errors--- you will get better.

Re: How to (slowly) increase tempo

I agree. As a psychologist, I would just add that in general do not practice doing it wrong for long. Back off and get it right at a lower speed before proceeding to a higher speed. Also your final...

Re: Despondent with lesson

I want to echo one point made by a previous poster: If you are having trouble mastering something, slow it WAY down to where you can play it accurately and reliably. And do that a LONG time (e.g. 30...

Re: Drummers using E kits

I agree with everyone who have commented on the touch of the hihat cymbals. That has been the hardest thing to adjust in the module and with my playing. Still getting used to slosh and opening during...

Re: Drummers using E kits

Completely agree. Very easy just to take the cymbals done and fold everything up. Works with a Yamaha 562K. I also LIKE the consistent feel of the pads vs the variable bounce of a-drums. Much easier...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I have these at work and love them. Good for trips too.

Re: THE AMBIDEXTROUS THREAD

Good point. And my dominance is the same as you. I drum right handed but throw and shoot left because I am left eyed. I wonder how common abnormal cerebral dominance is in musicians.

Re: What will happen to your gear, when you pass?

You guys are hilarious. But also some great practical ideas. Thanks for making me thing about this.

Re: Jim Gordon

I cannot let this go unchallenged. Our legal system (and mental health system) recognizes that there are times when a person has reduced responsibility for their actions. Imagine a person who is...

Re: The Beatles

I remember it clearly (which makes me old but not demented). All the Sullivan shows with the Beatles and Stones and Animals and Doors, etc. were great. I miss the live playing of groups from those...

Re: Best Harmony

The Roches! Absolutely. Folk influenced groups are likely to be ignored here. Let me just say Peter. Paul and Mary who were flawless live.

Re: Beatles First Manager Dies at 86

Sounds like the man himself had things in perspective:

In 2010, Williams told the Liverpool Echo: "I was just glad to have been there in the 60s, at the start of it all.
"I've always been proud...

Re: For those looking for lessons (review of some online sites)

Jared---
Keep on keeping on and ignore the haters. Like many others, I enjoy your style, your ability to explain drumming concepts clearly, and your skill on the kit.

Re: MIC THE DRUMS THROUGH HOME STEREO SYSTEM

Have a friend play while you listen. They will sound much different out front.

Re: I need something that's between Hot Rods and brushes

I like these too, but they don't last long in my experience compared to regular rods/roots.

The movie is available on Netflix. There is also a good one on Muscle Shoals.

Re: Drummers who "overplay" the music.

Look at Danny Seraphine on Chicago's up tempo songs like "Make Me Smile"---very "busy" but extremely musical and fitting for the style. But able to lay back on "Color my World" etc, when that was...

Re: Choose Your Music Genre Carefully

Exactly right. Also, the first graph does not make sense. Why are the "Average" male and female lines divided up by genre on the horizontal axis?

Re: Opinions about Push Pull Hand Technique?

I have been working on this for a couple of months now. It was very difficulty in the beginning, until the basic hand motions became part of "muscle memory." I understand the comments about it...

Re: Moeller for speed?

You might look into the push-pull technique. It's a similar way to get multiple hits with minimal motion, and in my very limited experience it is better suited for softer playing than Moeller.
