Re: Potential drummer; have a maybe controversial question

The first thing that they might do is refer to themselves as a drummer.

They might be banging on things a lot. Studying rhythm. Build their own drum kit if they can't buy one. Basically, you can...

Re: I Want to Gig!

I like your ad. Maybe you just have to wait a while.

I'm surprised some band hasn't contacted you to replace their current drummer that is leaving / going to school / had a baby / dog ate their...

Re: posture

I keep telling myself to straighten up. Sometimes it's time to take a break, maybe I'm a little tired.

Re: Practicing on a Pillow

I occasionally practice on a pillow but I prefer a practice pad. Sticks don't bounce off a pillow that well.

Re: Annoying Sounds

Hey Keith Moon and Levon Helm are good drummers. It takes a lot of work to get that good.

Re: NFL Asks Musicians for Money to Play Super Bowl Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne

Re: Not doing a gig because of the venue

I prefer some venues to others. If the management is OK and they pay then I'd likely play that gig.

This is what I would write:

Re: Self taught drummer.. how do I take my drumming to the next level

Play along with songs on the radio. Lots of different rhythms there.

Practice with the guitar player more.

Re: Open Mic Nights - How To?

If you don't see any jam sessions advertised on craigslist then visit some restaurants, bars or bowling alleys, ask if you can have a jam session there. Then place an ad on craigslist inviting people...

Re: Insulting a member on the bandstand

Re: Starting to teach.

I like the idea of selling sticks and books (and practice pads) (and buying and selling drum kits). It's worth a try. Add in a profit, it is OK to make a profit. The basic idea in business is to try...

Re: Always sounding bad when practicing

I bet there are some things that you play well. I have a neighbor that complains about my music all the time. I have other neighbors that like my music. You can't please everybody.

Sometimes it...

Re: Open Mic Nights - How To?

Open mic and jam sessions are two different things. At an open mic any musician is allowed to perform. At a jam session you are just jamming and it may be improvised.

Basically you just go and...

A couple years ago I auditioned for a local band. They used to be a popular working band, I saw them a couple times. They never called me. I think since then they played three charity gigs. Meanwhile...

Re: Students need experience

I think there are people that are very afraid of playing in front of strangers, or maybe anyone. I asked a lot of people but no one has ever met me in the park for a public jam session.

Re: How do you save up for gear purchases?

I usually eat at home. For dinner I might have a can of vegetables, a microwave potato and a piece of chicken cooked on the grill. Total cost maybe $ 4. So maybe I save $ 5 / day just from that one...

Re: Drumming Injury Advice needed!

I experience something like that too. I think it is a stress injury caused by whipping my wrist around too much. I take a 10 minute break every hour and sometimes change instruments to change my...
