Re: Help with posture

Agreed. The two AT lessons I've taken have changed my life, no joke. When I read "posture" in the thread title, I immediately thought "Alexander Technique." Brandon, you should definitely consider...

Re: Great hip hop drummers?

Madlib plays drums on his various Yesterday's New Quintet projects (credited as Otis Jackson, Jr.), but I don't know how much of his hip-hop output is real vs. sampled drums.

Re: Ever been compared to a celebrity / legendary drummer?

One time after a gig, I was surprised when someone compared my drumming to Mitch Mitchell's. MM is a fantastic drummer -- far superior to me -- but I never really considered him to be much of an...

Re: What professional drummer's setup do you admire most?

Alex Cline (http://extranet.cryptogramophone.com/images/Alex_Cline_Full_Gear.jpg), Pierre Favre -- I'm not sure I'd want to gig with either kit, but I could spend days exploring all the metal...

Re: new years drumming resolutions?

1. become even better friends with my metronome
2. work on my left hand technique, try to bring it up alongside my right hand
3. buy a house (we've been looking, but no luck yet) -- one of the...

Re: Best purchases you've made for drums.

My first drumset, bought through a newspaper ad in the early 90s. Late-60s vintage Ludwig 5-piece in blue sparkle (12-13-14 toms, 24 kick, 5.5x14 snare), 1960s 16" & 18" Zildjian crashes, plus stands...

Re: Rob Bourdon electric cymbal

How did the electric cymbal look? Like a regular cymbal with wires coming off it?

Your question reminds me of Amon Düül II's 1969 album Phallus Dei (great album, BTW), on which drummer Dieter...

Re: Prescreening Audition

When I read the OP, I couldn't help but think of the "two jazz drummers" robot video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKRzq-t8lIY)...

Aeolian and BigD ask good questions with excellent implicit...

Re: Modern Drummer's list of 25 Greatest Drum Books

I really like Drum Wisdom, I've had it for probably 15 years or so and periodically revisit it. It sticks out like a sore thumb on this list, since it's not really an exercise book. It seems to...

Re: Barriemore Barlow

Count me as another fan of Mr. Barlow, he's definitely underrated in the pantheon of 1970s rock drummers. I always found his double bass work to be particularly inspiring -- Hunting Girl, Minstrel...

Re: Why did you start drumming?

Cool topic, it's neat to read through the posts and see the different ways people find their way to the instrument.

I played piano and oboe as a kid. Since it's hazardous to march with an oboe...

Re: John Densmore

I always loved John Densmore's playing in the Doors, it was a huge influence on me as a young drummer... Riders on the Storm, The End, and When the Music's Over are probably my favorite Doors tracks.
