Re: Drumming dreams

The timing of this thread is kind of spooky. Just last night I had a drum dream. For some reason I was packing my kit up in a hurry and decided to fold (yes fold) one of my K crash cymbals to put...

Re: Two up - 13/10/16 config - Mounting issue

About once or twice a year I "forget" that I can never really feel comfortable with this setup and I reconfigure for a short time. Any reason to putz around with gear, right? I just find I can't do...

Re: 1 measure lick ideas for solos

There's a song I play with my band where I do something similar but the structure is two beats of accents from the guitar and bass (1 + 2...) then I fill the 3 + 4 +. So it's half measure fills...

Re: Fast Shuffle Technique

CORRECTION: The dropped stick can actually be heard in "I Keep Forgettin," not Rosanna. Got my fast paced hi-hat Porcaro grooves mixed up.

Re: Fast Shuffle Technique

In one of those old videos of Porcaro clinics on Youtube he actually admits that playing the shuffle at that speed was difficult for him. Maybe he's just being modest but he does say something to...

Re: My very first open mic

That looks similar to the kit I play on at the open mic near me, minus the brick of dish towel muffling though.

The kit I play on at this joint has ZBT hi-hats with missing chunks out of the top...

Re: Friends,Please Guide me

Ashok,

I would follow through with the exam. If it doesn't go well, no big deal. If you decide that taking classes and having drum exams are killing the fun, then stop taking them after the exam...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

No pics for now but my most recent purchase is a 18" K Custom Flat Top Ride. Has a real mellow sound that I would describe as "a muted bright tone."

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Ooooohh man. I do love Saabs. I had an old 83' Saab 900 Turbo in high school. Sort of like this one but two door. I was heartbroken when they closed up shop. I always planned on buying another...

Re: What is your drum setup pet peeve?

People trying to cram too many toms or toms that are too large between the high hat and bass drum so that the hi-hat is so far to the left you can't comfortably reach it.

That, and second floor...

Re: Help with middle fill in Whole Lotta Love

My Zep drum tab book confirms this. First note of fill is the last 16th trip from previous bar.r.

Re: Help with middle fill in Whole Lotta Love

drummer-russ,

PM me your cell number and I'll text you a photo of that part of the transcription. As I suspected, it just says "improvise cymbal bell" for an undetermined amount of measures...

Re: Help with middle fill in Whole Lotta Love

I'll see if it actually counts the measures of the violin bow solo that precedes the fill. It may just have a generic break/rest measure with no real direction on how many measures the solo is. ...

Re: Playing over the bar line.

One exercise I find useful to become familiar with the feel of playing over the bar line is to play 5 stroke rolls in 16th note phrasing. Play to a click. Start the roll with the accent on the 1and...

Re: 2015 Guru Snare Competition Entry Details - ENDS SOON!

Sounds good to me. I have the song engrained in my brain so I can see/hear you drumming and hear the song. Not bad for no practicing and being sick.
