Re: Here's a great way to boost your weaker hand:

Good stuff Bill. I remember learning french grip from Scooter Wooten (1980s Phantom) back in the day and you're right, the facility you develop makes you better at all grips.

Re: The natural meter challenge!

Nice job Bill, Todd & Larry. I'm planning to give this a try as well when I get a chance. As Todd & Larry mentioned, the real challenge would be to do it with a tempo that's a bit (or maybe a lot)...

Re: Back to Oak

Congrats on the kit! I fall in more in love with mine each time I play them!

Re: Uses for iPad

Ah, so I likely won't be able to use it as a practice pad either. ;-)

Excellent, thanks so much!

Thanks for the "heads up" on that. Looks like I'll need to hire someone to operate it...

Re: Uses for iPad

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. I can easily see this becoming an integral part of my musical life.

Has anyone found a good app to use for music notation/creating charts on the device...

Uses for iPad

So, I'm considering joining the 21st century and getting an iPad to use in my musical endeavors. I create and use a lot of paper charts with different acts and one of the things I imagine is having...

Re: Yes, professional grade drum kits are pushed!

Interesting Andy. I've never made that connection before but it makes sense to me. Our actions don't take place in isolation but are part of a larger social context where the resulting ripples will...

Re: Yes, professional grade drum kits are pushed!

Andy can correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I think that resiliency is one of the strengths that multi-ply drum shells have going for them.

Re: Great car for a drummer

My wife came very close to buying one of those when they came out. I remember looking at one at a dealership and they even had a custom fitting tent you could attach to the back to make it...

Re: Video: Louie Bellson and Steve Gadd in Studio

Very cool.

Louie's year of death is incorrect at the end. He left us in 2009, not 2004.

Nice post Polly. I concur that, much like the hokey pokey, "That's what it's all about."

Re: A Singing Drummer's Mic Set-up

Nope, no offense or rudeness interpreted at all brother. Just wanted to share how I remedied my own problem with unwanted noises coming through the mic, that's all.

And to be clear, singing...

Re: A Singing Drummer's Mic Set-up

In regards to appearance, the Elvis mic is definitely my favorite for drummers. Even though it obscures your face more, it seems to provide more of a focal point that's interesting to look at. And in...

Re: A Singing Drummer's Mic Set-up

As I mentioned, I have a microphone muting footswitch (with an LED on/off indicator) so I can turn the mic on and off pretty easily on the fly. Otherwise, the audience would be hearing all kinds of...

Re: A Singing Drummer's Mic Set-up

I sing both lead and backing vocals and I've got a Shure SM35-XLR that I've been using quite a bit. I run it through a footswitch next to my hi hat so I can turn it on and off at will.

As Larry...

Re: Better after time off?

Similar experience here as well Jeff. As a cyclist, I liken it to the "taper" before a race where you gradually cut down on volume, frequency and/or intensity of training to optimize your event...
