Re: non "latin" music with a "latin" influence

Dillinger Escape Plan, in the Ire Works album there are a few songs near the end that has large parts with some latin influence I think. Pretty heavy music.

Re: playing open handed with the ride cymbal on your left

This is how I always have played, replacing the traditional position of the Crash cymbal with the Ride cymbal.

It works fine for me, except it can be challenging when doing doublebass pedals some...

Re: Antonio Sanchez Click Track Spacing Exercise

For some reason this is asked quite often.

If you have a laptop (or computer near drumset) you can just download f.ex.:...

Re: Clear Heads on the BATTER side of the snare drums

I actually played with my stock Gretsch heads, 14" batter side from one of my toms, on my snare. These are not coated and yeah, it is a tom skin.

It sounded great, though. I was surprised at the...

Re: I posted this in a thread and it has been bugging me

Let's go over this...
To play drums you need to hit drums.
But hitting a drum does not equate to playing drums.

Therefore, we play drums because we have the skill and musical talent to do so....

Re: tom angles!!!!

You know most of those are probably set up just to take a picture, with the drums aligned next to each other for clarity.

Re: What the *F* am I doing wrong? Your feedback is appreciated.

If a problem is your snare drum making other drums buzz you can try and fix it...

You modify the length of the snare line by unscrewing it and adjusting it so it becomes slightly less tight. Also...

Re: I posted this in a thread and it has been bugging me

Wow, sounds like a jackass.

I think it is by some extent up to drummers to make people loose that attitude. Care for your instruments, be as musical as possible in your approach to music creation...

Re: UK drummers defined Heavy??

A social/economical status versus drumming technique/musical preference study would be interesting... These things probably change quite a bit all the time though. I am quite sure it has an effect.

Re: Who follows whom?

You are incredibly generalizing here... There are rock musicians who have a lot better grasp of music than an average jazz player.

Not all rock music is as fixed and easy to play as pop-rock...

Re: Double kick....

Tried using your ankles more rather than your legs? At high velocity it should be more convenient, if you get the technique down.

Re: open hand again

Interesting idea. You arent actually playing open handed then, though, are you? Just crossing in the opposite direction? But I suppose it is good practice for limb independancy and locking in...

Re: I beat the crap out of my drums/cymbals and I'm proud of it:)

I do too, sometimes. It depends, really. If the atmosphere is really awesome, or if I have f.ex. jammed for like 20 minutes straight and starting to work a sweat... yeah Ill probably give the toms...

Re: Gretsch Catalina Maple with free 16 floor

Congrats on your kit! I have exactly the same, with the same color, only I have an 8" tom as well. Don't be too envious though, I use it the least of my toms.

Anyways, right now I use Remo...

Song Creation Process

Hey folks. I have a question that deals with band dynamics, particulary the process of song creation, jamming, conceptualizing songs/riffs/themes, etc.

What are your experiences with this? In...

Re: Heel Up Technique: Bury the Beater or Not?

I find this statement interesting. You say you never experience any balancing issues when playing/learning heel up. This happens to be my biggest problem with learning this (heel up) technique....

Re: About playing quietly ...

Get to your drumkit, any will do. Using cymbals and hi-hats as natural, play regular beats of 4/4 and 6/8 doing fills when you feel like it. Try to maintain steady pace, it should...

Re: My 'Less Drums' Enlightenment

Could it be that your 4pc simply sounds better than the bigger kit you had?

I thought about downgrading or saving up for a second kit before, I have a 7pc now. Recently I changed heads and now my...

Re: Pain during practice

Can I ask what speed we are talking here, you say triplets at around 100 bpm...

Is this quarter triplets, eights or sixteens? I am not really familiar with this method.

Re: The need for speed

I think this holds true for one part of the brain. The other side wants creativity, a holistic vision of rhythm, "groove", "pocket", you name it. It is more interested with the artistic and bigger...

There is, as far as I know, no dependable way to do this through ordinary mixing, no.

The reason is that the drum sounds are on rather diverse and occupied frequencies, there is no clear,...
