Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

For me 5-10 BPM makes a big difference on the kick when it's exactly at the speed where I transition from one type of leg movement to the next.

Maintaining LRLR 16ths at about 160 sometimes feels...

Re: Independence vs learning set patterns

8Mile used the word "autopilot". This is how I feel too when the level of complexity of limb separation in a particular beat gets high enough, one or more limbs switch to autopilot while I "think"...

Re: When have you truly 'mastered' a given BPM?

With regard to double bass speed, I believe your friend has a point, but his mistake is insisting on the one hour. I think the point is you must have endurance, or more specifically, proper...

Re: Acoustic vs electronic drums: are they catching up?

Check out some videos of Tony Royster Jr on the TD-30. I would never know just from the sound that it was not acoustic.

The thing I dislike about e-drums is the overall feel. Got around that by...

Re: Meytal Cohen? She plays, right?

All of this.

The other female drummer I've watched is Lux Drummerette. I've watched more of her videos actually, since she does more covers I like. Learned to play a couple of songs with help...

Re: Double Bass Pedal Techniques

Practicing rudiments can really unlock a lot of control and speed on the kick.

But even RLRL can be quite complex when you start breaking it up with rests and things, you can do all sorts of...

Re: double bass speed question 4 you

Well, for example, my home kit is an acoustic converted with mesh heads and triggers. With the sound module on my double bass speed is all there, max about 240. Remove the sound, which then just...

double bass speed question 4 you

Are you able to play faster if your kick sounds better?

The difference for me can be dramatic, from about 200 bpm to 240. Oddly enough it seems as if my ears tell my brain that a crappy sounding...

That "guitar solo".

Mercy.

Re: Craigslist ads crack me up....

Lol, I'm sure it just means style, not necessarily chops. For example on guitar I've been told there are definite George Lynch and Steve Vai influences, and I would say I my style is very much like a...

Are you sure that's heel-heel toe-toe? Looks like heel-toe heel-toe to me.

Re: peace sells drum track

Pocket, I don't think the tempo is what rotherdrummer was refering to. The double bass toward the end sounds odd because the right and left are uneven volume.

The tempo increase you're refering...

Re: peace sells drum track

Not sloppy timing, just the left is louder than the right; either weaker right foot, or bad mix.
That album is sooo good. I'm not crazy about the drumming though, and the drum mix itself is...

online "kit builder"

Are there any others besides DW and Mapex? They're both nice, I'd just like to tinker with others too if they're out there.

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

Much of the time the challenge is not finding talent but finding someone who's style is what you're looking for. Unless it's a cover band I suppose.

Re: 32nd notes in a 16th note fill - singles or doubles?

Good post. Singles, doubles, they're tools. More often than not there's no one way to do something but I obviously try to use the best tool for the job. The best technique to use depends on so many...

Re: Great hip hop drummers?

Well I'll make the obvious Royster Jr mention, but he's not necessarily a hip hop drummer I suppose, it just happens to be his current gig.
