Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

Best thing I ever did was to play in the band with in-ear monitors. I have a little mackie 4 channel mixer and a set of M-Audio monitor buds. I take whatever I want in, such as a direct out from the...

Anyone had this problem?

I'll spare you the long, long story on how I got to this point and just present this as a question.

Has anyone ever had pain and/or diagnosis because one of the muscles on the front of the leg...

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

Thanks for the input. I've got a stomp box and cajon and a few other things. They're fun but I've not really messed with them a whole lot outside of goofing off at home. In a setting with the band I...

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

Thanks. Oddly enough, I have no trouble playing bass with my left foot. I don't have the endurance of the right but I don't have any trouble with the limb independence or hitting my marks. Playing...

Re: "cheap" drums

Put about 3 coats of fiberglass resin inside the shells up to the bearing edges. It gives them properties more like a hardwood and the kit will sound better. I've done this twice with cheap kits...

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

It had crossed my mind. I might just give it a shot and if nothing else it'll buy me some time.

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

I would make you one but with the boot and the restriction I can't. I don't get too worked up about my hand technique and such, but this foot thing bothers me. I really don't wanna let my guys down...

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

Like the next guy said, I have a band and all. I don't plan on playing at all until my follow-up in two weeks and i won't play after that if i'm told not to. I really was only playing about an hour a...

Re: Who is the best British rock drummer of 2017?

I really like the kid from Bring Me The Horizon. Straightforward, but still original and sometimes complex. Plays to the music but still finds a way to stand out.

If we were talking Australia,...

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

My dad always told me it's downhill after 40 but until the past year or so I've had basically no problems. Now I'm 38..sick three times this year..panic attack a few weeks ago. And I'm in pretty...

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

I keep my knees a bit below my hip crease and I stay fairly close to the pedal.

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

My foot technique probably isn't great but it might be ok. I try to keep my stool height as per what I've seen online. I'm not exactly a student of drumming though. I know my grip isn't perfect and...

Re: Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

Yeah it was blowing up my shins a bit but I was adapting. It still didn't seem sustainable long term for the rock music I'm playing. I wonder if I could just do it much softer but put a trigger on...

Re: Do you wear rings when drumming?

I hook my ring to my keychain when I play. It pinches randomly and builds up a weird callus if I leave it on.

Alternative methods of playing bass drum (injury)

I've had tendinitis of the extensor digitorum longus for over two years due to drumming. It's affecting both feet, but primarily my right. I've tried rest and PT and over the summer had injections...

Re: Outrages prices for used gear that you want.

I always just keep in mind that top end cymbals are fairly priced somewhere in the 8-10 dollars per inch range. Double braced boom stands in any working condition will be 30 bucks at a minimum. Shell...

Re: Questions to ask drum students

what's with some of the snarky answers? it's questions from a teacher, so the questions will have a teachable answer.

Re: Questions to ask drum students

I've been playing for 10 years and I'm not sure I would have all the answers to those..lol. Well..maybe not the answers you're looking for?

Oh..you wanted responses.

1. Primarily on the 1

Re: Todd Sucherman sued for drumstick toss to audience

You should watch the video about that woman. She had a legit argument. It was nothing like we were lead to believe.

Re: Do you play songs live the way you do on your EPs?

The Mars Volta live. Multiple 10 and 20 minute, aimless improv jams in the middle of what are already very intricate songs. In some ways, that show wasn't worth the 9 hour drive. I gotta go with the...

Re: Do you play songs live the way you do on your EPs?

I've been playing the same eight originals for almost three years. They've evolved here and there. When we finally did a professional recording a couple months ago I tried to play it as straight as...

Tendinitis or chronic injuries from drumming

Two years of nagging foot pain in one of the small ligaments where the leg meets the foot, I was diagnosed with tendinitis and physical therapy has helped. I've got the problem in my other foot but...

Re: PDP kit with DW badges...?

I have no idea if he got the ladies with it. I certainly didn't with my dad's Taurus. :(
