Re: Right Hand / Right Foot Independence

Of course but playing slow is something that is too overhyped on the internet. Before I got together with a teacher I was practicing slow 90% of the time but you have to practice all speeds equally...

Re: Fast feet training - syncing both feet

Here is how you do it:

First start with this exercise RRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
then repeat once again but starting with the left. It's like a paradiddle but with groups of eight notes....

Re: Right Hand / Right Foot Independence

Yes but if you want to be able to play the same thing fast later on you will have to practice the fast tempos technique slowly otherwise you are wasting time.

Re: Right Hand / Right Foot Independence

Once you get good technique/muscle memory on all limbs then it's just the matter of coordinating them and that takes much less time than developing muscle memory for all limbs so they are doing stuff...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

No I wasn't but I was frustrated and didn't feel like practicing. And this is not a small technique issue, it's a big issue when you know you are doing something wrong but can't figure out why. It's...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

Haha, after all those lessons on free strokes you are telling me it's ok to not let the beater rebound :p

I'm amazed on how much better it feels now to play when my hands are more loose and all...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

Ok I found out what the problem was. It was the angle of the foot board. I have long board speed cobra pedals that were too flat. I adjusted them and made them more angled (lika a regular pedal) and...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

OK, I'm not getting anywhere with this. I'm trying to do the George kollias thing where he lifts up his heel with the toes on the pedal board and then drops his heel.

I can only get very weak...

Re: Need help with shuffle technique on hi-hat for Sublime's Santeria.

I not playing shuffle using this technique but learning the exercise with all free strokes that bounce back by them selves was a gateway into playing fast shuffle like I was previously playing it...

Re: Need help with shuffle technique on hi-hat for Sublime's Santeria.

I had the same problem but after getting some lessons from bill bachman I can play it up to speed. We didn't even exercise that technique. However I did a ton of free stroke exercises.

I think it...

Re: French vs German grip

I think american grip is the best of both worlds where you get some benefits of both grips. I think german is a disadvatageous grip compared to the other two. I never practice german. Practicing...

Re: Playing limbs EXACTLY in unison... sounds easy?

One of the most important exercises IMO. All your limbs should be able to play in absolute unison. It will make everything sound much tighter and punchier.

One thing that is important is to make...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

You are describing my problem exactly. It's the inbetween speed of both feet in the air vs both feet coming down and resting between each stroke. Both feet in the air are no problem, I have full...

Re: Murray Spivack technique?

Why do you assume that if you learn this grip you are forced to stick to just that one grip? You are severely limiting your self by only using one technique.

Why not master all grips, french,...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

Actually the left foot is easier, it has less bad habits so forgetting the old technique didn't take as long. I've discovered an exercise that bill bachman tought me that really helps leading with...

Saw this video, he says to hit with the ball of foot and then immediately after put the heel down. This is somewhat unnatural for me as I prefer to have...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

Yes I think that is the problem, I've always just played bury the beater at slow tempos. I just need to do it really slow letting the beater bounce back.

Haha I've been tought by Bill Bachman...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

This is what I'm worried about really. I'm 100% sure that my fast temos technique is a good one because it works very well for me, I can do it effortlessly and it feels great. I know that technique...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

I've done that A LOT in the past, I really don't think this is the solution to this particular problem. I think it's better to play a few thousands of repetitions of just RRRR RRRR LLLL LLLL RRRR...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

Cool I'll try it. I've already had some success with adjusting the beater angle a bit further back and use stiffer spring tension. It helped a lot.

Anyway, the problem is I'm playing the fast...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

Yes, regular beats I prefer burying. I can do both but I might get occasional ghost notes. It's just when playing slower rlrlrl with my feet or lrlrlrlr and playing stuff on toms in unison I get some...

Re: AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

I've already done a fundamental shift in my technique. I always practice playing with the beater off the head. It's just that when playing slow you need a different technique. A year? I think I can...

AARGH! NOT burying the beaters at slow speeds, impossible??

How the hell do you not bury the beater at slow speeds. Playing stuff at 200 bpm is easy but this for some reason is really hard.

I've been trying to unbury the beaters for 6 months now and while...

Re: George Lawrence Stone - Stick Control

Yep, a paradiddle with accents and taps is a different skill altogether. Playing a paradiddle without accents as free strokes is basically just practicing single and double strokes. (Even if you are...
