Re: Playing Ahead Of The Beat

Metronome. Slow at first. Slow. Then develop your "internal" time. There are no short cuts.

Re: Book of all Sticking Permutations?

I was thinking (most probably not an original thought), since practicing all permutations is not practical and many/most permutations not musical - why not take another approach...which is: listen to...

Re: G.L Stone's Stick control 4 members warm up

Nothing like George L Stone's Stick control for coordination, independence and pattern development. First 3 pages is a lifetimes worth of material. Enjoy the process. BTW, excellent video...

Re: Double bass simoltaneous hitting problem

SLOW everything down. Put your metronome on 30-40 bpm and relax.

Re: New Drummer Seeking Advice

Yeah, its all about the journey. Slow things down and practice each exercise deeply and let it get ingrained in your mind and muscles. Its not a race. In this modern world of instant gratification;...

Re: I feel like I'll never get proper practice?

A tradeoff. e-drums play anytime day or night with great sound especially with VSTs. Acoustics the real feel and dynamics. Practice Pad for rudiments. In ideal world, you have all three.

Re: Drumming quietly to hear the singer

Being able for everyone to hear everyone else is the key and adapting your playing to help accomplish this goal is always in the mix.

Re: Thought's on double kick

I suppose double petals are fine, if not over played. I played a double petal in the 80s for about 10 years, until I came to realize I really didn't need it for the styles of music I was playing. ...

Re: The Kopf Cajon

I have not had the opportunity to play the Kopf Cajon, but I have heard nothing but good things about them. Wish I could find one in local store to play. Currently I am playing an LP Americana...

Re: The First Kit You Got

When I was 8 years old - 1965 Sears Roebuck drum set. Loved it. And my dad for working extra hours to buy it for me.

Re: Right time to use a Cajon?

Sounds good. Many quality brands/model and some crap ones. I happen to play this one:

Have good results. It has a decent bass thump...

Re: Right time to use a Cajon?

I have been using Cajon as drum set replacement with a acoustic guitar trio in small bar venue. Guitars are miced and go through mixer and PA, as does the Cajon. I stick a bass mic inside hole in...

Re: practicing rhythms while walking

Yeah, I have always done this while walking, sitting, tapping on thighs, tapping feet. Walking is good.

Re: HELP ME

With due respect, I think you are engaging in "all or nothing" thinking and "magnification". Your feet are not completely awful, you have not tried everything, you have improved, and you will...

Re: Double pedal help

I suggest starting slow. 40bpm or lower. Single Alternating strokes, slowing increasing tempo over time. Place this into your practice routine. Be Patient, it will come. Then go onto doubles, ...

Re: 16th Note Triplet Accent Patterns

Mixing singles and doubles together, to work around the set. I would recommend "Stick Control" by George Stone, if you have not already.

Re: Is my kit good enough?

As a follow up, and I don't mean to be judgmental, sometimes when I go down to the local Guitar Center to pick up a part or a new pair of sticks, I see parents come in with the kid who was programmed...

Re: Is my kit good enough?

I agree with all the others. It is good enough. Its reminds me of my first drum set that I was lucky enough to get for Xmas when I was 10. It was a sears roebuck 5 pc drum set from the sears...

Re: Tipping point

One of the best things to do is take a break from drumming for periods of time and when you come back everything is fresh and exciting and you will find is some things were stuck on come more easily.

Re: Problems playing live

I agree with the other comments, I would only add a point about listening. When you play in a musical band context, your listening intently to the other musicians. In your case the guitarist and...

Re: Book of all Sticking Permutations?

+1 on his system. Rather than writing out all permutations. Learn a system, such as Benny Greb's apply to 1,2 3 and 4 limbs over time and also practice your rudiments and first 3-4 pages of Stone.

Re: My left foot is.. stupid?

One training exercise is to remove right bass drum and just practice with left foot until which time it is strong and coordinated. Takes time and patience. Don't get discouraged, left foot...

Re: Getting into flatfoot technique?

Try Heel up, Flat, and Heel down. 8 measures of each at comfortable tempo. Repeat. After a while you will be able to go in between each and use each and all subtle variations in between. One of the...
