Re: Tuning a Gretsch tom

You have probably already tried this, but you might try loosening both heads to finger tightness and then starting the tuning process again.

Re: Anyone else notice the cost of sticks getting ridiculous

I think that the price of sticks are fairly priced for me. I go through 2-3 pairs/year of Peter Erskine Ride Sticks ($35 in total). Compare the price of sticks to that of guitar strings, saxophone...

Re: Poll: Buddy Rich

I saw him in the late 70's. Pretty awesome drummer and I respect his playing ability. But, I am not a fan; he strikes me as an arrogant, self-centered SOB. I would not be interested in spending time...

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

I listened to your entire YouTube segment. It is well thought out and conceived. You are right "it is not a big deal" who the best drummer in the world is. The best drummer in the world argument is...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I played Regal and Vic Firth 5B's for decades. I never tried anything else. Then I tried the Peter Erskine Ride stick with a wooden tip. Now, all I play is the Erskine Ride stick because I really...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Got me an AK Copper Snare (14x6.5") with Craviotto snares. It is a few years old so it has the start of a nice patina.

Re: My personal list of rock and roll's top cowbell moments

Not quite rock and roll, but Daniel Sadownick does rock the congas and cowbell (1:45 and then later at 2:10)!

Another vote for AK snares. I really like my 6.5x14" Standard Copper Snare.

Re: "Museum piece" kits

Sometimes it makes sense to keep an item in pristine condition for future generations to enjoy. I have no problems with unplayed kits.

Re: RUSH retirement rumor

I first saw them in Regina, Saskatchewan with their new drummer; some guy named Peart. I liked their first album with John Rutsey but was willing to give their newby a listen. Neil stole the show!

Time to go out on top and do new things. Thanks for the tunes; I really enjoyed them in the 1970's.

Re: How to make my vintage ludwig sound better

To get a warm sound out of your drums, try Earthtone calf skin heads. You will be amazed at how much these warm up your drums.

Re: Lugwig Legacy. How good of a deal is this?

I think it is a pretty good deal. I like the wrap too. You can always change the wrap down the road (e.g. Precision). It all comes down to whether it really is a 9/10 or perhaps 6/10.

Has it been 40 years? Where did they go. I bought the album as soon as it was released. Read about it in Circus magazine too. Still love "Down by the Seaside."
