Re: Todd Sucherman here!

I also saw the video of Gary playing with REO, warmed my heart. I grew up in Champaign, used to deliver papers in the neighborhood where they rehearsed.

Re: Todd Sucherman here!

Todd,
Although I was unfortunately unable to attend the Rock To The Rescue concert for tornado relief last night, I just wanted to thank you for your part in what sounds like a very successful...

Re: Todd Sucherman here!

Hey Todd,
Leadfoot here, we met at Skins & Tins in Champaign. I had DVR'd and just finished watching the One With Everything concert you guys did with the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra and...

Re: Ride On The Verse

I liked Phil Rudd's approach, NO ride cymbal.

Re: Alternative to a drum key?

I use a 1/4" drive socket extension in a cordless drill to quickly zip out the tuning rods when changing heads, and when putting them back in. Obviously you must be very careful not to over tension...

Re: Weird Drum Kit

Very 70's, very cool in the day. Unfortunately they sound pretty much like any single headed concert tom, just louder.

Re: My first and last (hopefully) wedding gig.

I feel your pain. In 35 years of gigging I've played dozens of weddings, and can count the ones that I enjoyed on one hand. I swore off them about ten years back and haven't done one since. Life's...

Re: Drummers and Motor Vehicles

Exactly right. Problem is that no matter how cautiously you drive, there's always someone else who is more concerned with his or her cell phone conversation than your life.

Re: Drummers and Motor Vehicles

Since I started gigging 34 years ago, I have never been without a van, mini van, or covered pickup truck. To me, it's just required equipment no less than a bass drum or throne. I will never cram my...

Re: 5-Star Drum Shops

$33.00 difference, you have to consider that you'd also have to pay shipping, and then there's the convenience factor, you walked out of the store with it instead of waiting a few days for it. I...

Re: 1979 Sonor Phonic Drum Set

Recovering them won't hurt the value that badly, as the older Phonics in GOOD shape only fetch $6-800.00 anyway. I'd keep them & recover them. No DW set, Keller or otherwise will ever sound as good...

Re: Stopping bass drum creeping forwards

I've heard that cockleburs on a wool sock were the inspiration for velcro. To bad it wasn't my sock, I'd be rich.

Re: Stopping bass drum creeping forwards

It doesn't roll, I don't mount anything on it, it just sits there & goes boom. For most rehearsals I only set up kick-snare-hat. I tried everything you can imagine back when I was a bass drum...

Re: Stopping bass drum creeping forwards

Many times at rehearsal, I don't even unfold the spurs on my bass drum, it's all in the velcro on the pedal. Stop the pedal from moving, problem solved.

Re: Stopping bass drum creeping forwards

Drum rug, velcro on the the bottom of your pedal, end of story. Make sure the throne is on the rug as mentioned.

Re: My best for a "geezer" 198 BPM-- should I give up?

Re: My best for a "geezer" 198 BPM-- should I give up?

Stop worrying about BPM's and work on grooving. There is so much more to drumming than how fast you can play, drumming is not a sport. Just my .02.

Re: Life After Drumming?

I hear ya, I'm 47 & have been gigging for 34 years. My playing is probably the best that it's ever been thanks to playing every weekend and Todd Sucherman's video, but my knees are shot from...
