formica. used for counter tops awesome for drum wrap on a budget, wide range of color, and available at home depot lowes etc.

I know Adrian Young of No Doubt uses a snare with no resonator head as a timbale on his kit... sounds good. Try to find videos of him playing live.

I like it a lot, more so the wear on the inner of the metal. We're actually working on something similar with aged copper hoops and lugs for a snare. good luck with the project and keep us updated.

+1 it'll be very hard to get a nice looking fade like you had said you wanted to do using spray paint, if anything practice on something else first until you are satisfied with the work then do it on...
