Re: EGO's

I feel it for these old musicians. I've played with two musicians that are undergoing chemotherapy, guys with kidney stones, people having cataract surgery right before a gig, it's amazing what...

Re: Have i lost it?

I find a practice pad one of the handiest things but I sometimes fall asleep while practicing rudiments. I get bored too.

Re: Do you think it's time for your favorite drummer to retire?

Charlie Watts is really cool. He has this big band going on as a side project. "The A,B,C,D Of Boogie Woogie" I think it's called.

Re: Band Hunting

The ad looks good to me. I'd try going to a local open mic session.

Re: Do you think it's time for your favorite drummer to retire?

Some musicians, I know they are very old and might have some problems but I still want to hear them play.

That happens to me a lot too. It's frustrating.

Re: Deciding on Album Artwork?

I don't think it works that way.

Just find some artwork that you and the other band members like.

Re: Mic Cables...

I fix cables about every week or two. Open up the connector, use a magnifying glass and look at the wires. I often see little wires touching the other connectors. Sometimes all I do is push the wires...

Re: Recording technique

If the first track is a click track or drum machine then I can synchronize additional tracks. Everything will be in rhythm. I then mute the click or drum track and record a new drum track.

One...

Re: How to make music!

Google Chord Pulse software. There is a free demo version. Chord Pulse basically plays chords and sounds like a keyboard. You can turn off the drum tracks and play along with the chords.

Re: Help - Meeting up with Guitarist

Sometimes I meet people at an open mic place and we jam there.

Re: How do you feel the day after a gig?

It's pretty much just another day for me, but I gig a lot and have lots of practice and rehearsal stuff going on.

Doesn't happen to me, maybe because I look at them every day.

Re: Good Bassist.

Some musicians have the ability to improvise a good groove and others don't. I can't figure it out.

Re: 10.000 hours of practice is not the magic number

I think it is possible to practice too much. Too much stress on the body and tendonitis or some other illness starts.

Re: Beginning drummer: what to buy for practice?

I use my little digital drum pad for jamming and gigs. It has about 50 drum kits, a metronome, lots of backing tracks to play along with, and works well for some gigs. It's OK to have more than one...

Re: Recording Compared to Playing Live

The other day I recorded my practice and did not like it at all. I have to practice with the recorder at home more.

Re: Licking my wounds from sitting in tonight

I'm not a jazz player but I think "Shiny Stockings" would be challenging for me to play. I think you need to practice on a drum kit. Pads are OK for some things but not the same as playing on drum...
