Re: who here uses in-ear plugs?
I love my Ultimate Ears ustoms. I use them for listening to musi and I use them everytime I am behind the kit, in rehearsal, and on gigs, exept intimate jazz gigs.
They are a lot of money but...

Re: Moeller - which grip?
Perfect, thanks for sharing this. Interesting. I misunderstood your "folkloric" as sarcastic, as it is not a word people often use.
Cheers, and kudos for doing all that work although I know you...

Re: Moeller - which grip?
While I completely support your overall "no limit" message, it seems to me that a beginner at the Moeller will best learn it by learning the German position first.
I am not sure how you learned...

Re: How to make a drum solo over vamp ?
For me, the main thing to remember is that the vamp is part of the music while you are soloing so you should be able to hear it at all times and you should listen to it and play off of it.

Re: Hands better on pillow than pad - WHAT???
I would second Arky, brady and the prevailing mood: free stroke, freestroke, freestroke. A couple of master opinions, just for keeping a broad perspective:
Dom does not advocate pillow practice...

Re: Moeller - which grip?
Make sure you learnthe free stroke first, otherwise you are cheating yourself.
Also, I highly, highly recommend a great teacher for this material, it will be worth every penny you spend.
That...

Re: The Full Stroke
It is actually pretty generally agreed on, among the masters, that the free stroke is a major technique and I would venture to guess that anybody who teaches teaches the free stroke or a close cousin...

Re: Gretsch Cat Maple disappointment
The only thing extra lugs do is compensate for the lack of stiffness of the hoop. The addition of lugs just mean more precise tuning and the effect of added lugs gets smaller for each added lug.

Re: Gretsch Cat Maple disappointment
If I inserted an extra lug somewhere on your six lug drum, would that make it harder to tune?
Simply tap the head a couple of inches away from the rim while gently muffling the centre, at each...

Re: Free stroke question
Great videos thanks for posting. I agree that a large part of your technique should be practiced on a pad. However, it is very important to play the snare drum for long periods of time as well. This...

Re: Free stroke question
You don't need to invest very much in the free stroke, so it really is almost free ;-)
Here is what I did:
I have a 12' Vic Firth pad (less than 20 USD) and a
flimsy Dixon snare stand 25...

Re: Need help improving rhythm
"Boring" is a judgement that I do not see any value in passing on. At least not when it is used about a tool that 100% of great players have used for 1000s of hours.
