smaller strokes, lower stick heights, looser grip. Work on some grooves that have ghost notes in them......

One idea that you may find helpful is to substitute hi-hat "chick" sounds for bass drum notes. Simply play your cymbal pattern on the ride, and play any beat ideas that you really like with bass...

Yes, exactly. that gives you the placement of the notes that is the basis of the coordination needed.....double the quarter note triplet vs a quarter note and you get eighth note triplets vs eighth...
