Always loved those SS Super Classics he used.

Not to derail the thread, but Alvin's drummer in the follow-up group he had later, "Ten Years Later", Tom Compton was impressive as well with that...

Cool video... nice to know the history of those drums and how he got them. I assume the Blaemire snare was stolen with his '66 Ludwigs.

Don played guitar for Billy from 1973-75. He took over for Al when the Piano Man tour began.

Don, like Al was no slouch! I am in touch with Larry, the bass player and he told me Al was only 17...

Bringing this back up, I noticed Billy's 1971-72 band is going to be playing a couple of shows in the NYC/Philly area towards the end of next month. Nice picture of his Blaemires on the ad.

I heard about that... that kit was given to him by Hoyt Axton back in the early 80's when he started playing with him. It was originally a Black Oyster Pearl, but he later had it re-wrapped in black...

Looks like a Camco/Rogers combo... IIRC he was never a endorser for anyone, he used that same Oaklawn era Camco kit for ages. A piece of rock and roll history IMHO.

Anybody else familiar with him? Did some drumming with Elton John before he hired Nigel Olsson, (on the album "Empty Sky) and worked on the "Tumbleweed Connection" and "Madman Across the Water"...
