Re: Lars Ulrich

All I know is that Lars' drumming on ...And Justice for All is his finest work to date, in my most humble opinion. His playing on that album made me air drum for days at an end, trying to learn his...

Re: Gloves? Yey or Ney?

TenPastTen, yes, those gloves look completely bad ass! I use Neumann football receiver gloves, they have this sticky thing on the palm that helps with the grip somewhat, although they are kinda thick...

Re: For those who suffer from blisters...

Indeed, it's way too extreme to get your hands like that after just one hour of playing (according to the voice at the start of the video) And Kenny is all: "yeah I'll be better tomorrow"... that...

For those who suffer from blisters...

Now I don't know if this is due to poor technique or downright crazy playing, but check out this video:

Re: Do you know anyone else who plays the way I do?

Im right dominant, play open handed and lead with my right, so, I have my hihats on the right and play the snare with my left most of the time. As for the feet, I lead with my left foot 99% of the...

Re: To Double Bass or Not To Double Bass

I guess many drummers today are blinded by the illusion they must play 250 + BPM single stroke double bass to be considered "worthy" or "good". So yeah, I also think it's way overrated. There should...

Re: To Double Bass or Not To Double Bass

I've been drumming a little over a year, and got a double pedal within my first 2 months of drumming 'cause I knew that was the key to the sound I wanted out of my drumming. I recently got another...

Re: Double Bass history?

This is very cool indeed. Thanks to every single one of you for your replies. I guess we all have learned something new today, well, at least for those of us who use double pedals or double bass and...

Double Bass history?

Ok, the question basically is who came up with the idea of using two bass drums? Then double pedals. What came first? It would be interesting to come up with some sort of compendium on the history of...

Nice little drumming game I found on the 'net

Althouhg this game may look rather simple at first, it's everything but. You only use three keys, but it gets surprisingly hard within the first few levels. Enjoy...

Re: Mike Portnoy Question

I have a very old video course (Concepts in Progressive Drumming I think it's called) where he says he gets all of the stuff for free. Endorsements, obviously.

As for techs, well, when you get to...

Re: Derek Roddy here!

I think when it comes to techniques or exercises, that is simply the best advise a pro drummer of your caliber can give to anyone: Wanna get better? PLAY!!

Thanks for your reply, Derek.

Re: Odd things you do while you drum....

I mostly look at either my feet on the footboards or the beaters hitting the bassdrum. And bite my lower lip.

Re: Looking for a picture of Igor Cavalera

Yeah dude, I made the Image search, but none of those match what I'm looking for, hence I come to ask the aid of my fellow drummers.

Looking for a picture of Igor Cavalera

I've been searching the interweb for a picture in particular of (former?) Sepultura's drummer. This picture appeared in an issue of Metal Maniacs ages ago as a poster. I hold it very dearly 'cause...

Re: Derek Roddy here!

Hey, Derek, question about the excercise, is it any better if we do each section for more than 2 minutes? I wonder what's the longest you've done it.

Kind of a silly question I know

Thanks!!

Re: Jumping from double pedals to double bass, advise please

I'm playing Pearl P122TW pedals, the budget version of the Eliminators. I've been fine with these pedals, but I'd like something better. I'm not saying these pedals are bad, on the contrary, but I...

Re: Beginner drummer who loves metal...which songs would be suitable as starting?

Try also The Fireball Ministry, they play hard rock, but their songs are pretty simple to play along to, and are catchy as hell.

Re: Jumping from double pedals to double bass, advise please

Thanks to everyone for their input. And yes, I know it's a hassle to get a separate bass drum in every sense. I'm still thinking about it though, since I'm not made of money. What I'm gonna do is...

Jumping from double pedals to double bass, advise please

I've been playing double pedals for about 8-9 months. I don't know if it's because they feel uneven (typical, one pedal stronger than the other), but I'm getting the itch to expand and play actual...

Re: Doublebass Speed

You may also consider swivel technique, it accentuates ankle movement. Here, Tim Waterson explains it best:

Re: Kit playing vs snare/ rudimental work

I agree with mind_drummer. You have to ask yourself, "what I'm playing for? What do you want to do? What are your goals, ambitions and what are you doing to accomplish them? If you've been playing...
