Re: Chuck Norris ??

I can fix anything from a broken heart to a coffee break, but all I could do with that sucker is run it out to the dumpster.

Re: No Respect

I get what you're saying and that sort of teasing definitely exists in my line of work, but there's usually a note of something mean about it that follows the predictable mold of, "if you can't make...

Re: No Respect

After spending a lot of time recently on a bass player forum, I notice that a certain core of them spend A LOT of time tearing down drummers for being ham-fisted half-wits, keyboard players' left...

Re: My speed has stalled

Just depends on what you want to do with it. There's raw skill and there's the application of that skill. That's where the pride/shame factors in, IMO.

Sounds like you're on a roll, though! Haha!

Re: My speed has stalled

I'm not as fast as I used to be. There comes a point in playing music where a flurry of notes just doesn't hit the spot and you won't be able get the power to match with rest of what you're playing...

Re: Difficult band members

It's not necessary to see eye to eye on everything. Obviously, that's not even possible.

What is important is to have the others bring out the best in each other so some amount of good will on a...

Re: Should I convert 14" and 16" toms to floor toms?

I had these on a kit once and really liked them, plus they still fit in my cases, so that wasn't an issue for me.

In any case, I would definitely put some legs on those drums however you decide...

Re: Poll: Buddy Rich

Now that you mention it, I really don't. But if I did, better Buh-lieve I'd be working some angle to exploit ... man, I'd have me a big white Cadillac, powder-blue suits, an expensive Elvis hair...

Re: Poll: Buddy Rich

It's worse; more like my God can beat up your God.

Personally, I don't mind that He was a total a-hole. The Man had some pretty serious thoughts about the way things should be done, and it was...

Re: Only6 months left to drum!!

For me it was a minefield and I done got myself blowed up.

I stopped playing at home completely but continued playing in bands, though only one at a time.

Now divorced and living in an...

Re: Famous drummers mixing cymbal brands

I can't come up any huge name drummers that do, unless you count Matt Cameron earlier in his career when he could be seen mixing the big 3. Dave Grohl occasionally sports some 2oo2s. Last time I saw...

Re: Went to Memphis Drum Shop (again)...

That would be my problem, too. Don't get me wrong; I'd still love to go there and take it all in, but the likelihood of an impulse buy would be pretty small.

I could see how useful it might be if...

Re: Does independence just click one day?

This kind of nails it for me.

If you can play Walk This Way, then you're using all four limbs that are all playing their own parts, but they're all part of the same groove and everything goes...

Re: Reso head or open bottom???

There's nothing "wrong" with running without reso heads in concert tom mode. It's just a different sound. You can ask what you're missing by going without reso heads (clarity and roundness of tone),...

Re: Hoops?

Last night I got the answer to a question about S-Hoops I've been wondering about for a long time: will they work with clamp-on style mic holders?

Not all, and perhaps not any, but for sure not...

Re: Why the "hate" for nylon tips??

I never noticed that nylon sounds different on drums, and I've never had a tip come off on me, but I really don't like the way they bring all the shrill tones out of a ride cymbal. So harsh.

Wood...

Re: Linear "Bonham" Triplets poll and discussion

Like Jeff, I really don't use that trick anymore, though for me it wasn't so conscious - they just started to feel stale from over use. Occasionally I'll find a place where it works and I want to use...

Re: How do you count while playing drums?

Man, I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, but it really sounds like you guys just need to spend more time practicing. These things only come from practicing and learning to just feel it when 4/8/16...

Re: How do you count while playing drums?

I almost never count anything unless it's new and I'm trying to figure it out, but even then, I first go for the time signature (or the phrase length if it's compound time) and then the subdivisions....

Re: Equal Opportunity Hands?

Good to see you, Abe.

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

As one who really doesn't care about getting paid, I will say that if there's any money being made off me, I want my cut. But fact is that my band probably only gets out every 2 or 3 months to play...

Re: Is Ringo a good drummer?

I love me some troll threads! Yeah, Ringo sucked for sure. He's easily my favorite shitty drummer of all time. Big influence on me, and now I suck, too!

Now I'm off to the Zildjian vs. Sabian...

Re: When to do Free Gigs and Paid Gigs

Big +1 for this, though for me, #3 is a distant third. I've known too many people who got hung up on the money angle to the point where it seemed like their only driver. Even if my band gets paid...

Re: Sloppy fills

I absolutely agree with this. Thing is that Moon was practicing fills, and practically all the time. Obviously he wasn't deliberately mapping them out, more that he was putting into practice the bits...

Re: Sloppy fills

In order to play fills that work, you have to practice them. I see a lot of drummers who can hold down the fort with adequate time, but since they see themselves as just time-keepers, their ability...
