Re: Help finding specific Pearl tom lugs

These are very, very close but they are bass drum lugs. Not sure if that helps.

Re: Removing the tom mount off my Starclassic BD

You may want to try applying a little heat to the area to soften things up, which may prevent lacquer issues. I'm not so sure about using anything sharp around lacquer. Sounds like you are asking...

Re: Removing the tom mount off my Starclassic BD

If there is nothing fixing the mount to the drum, I would try installing the tom tree in the mount and lightly applying pressure to crack lose whatever is holding the mount on the drum.

Re: The 16x14 floor tom

I much prefer the sound of a 16x14 vs 16x16. Heck, a 16x13 or even a 12" depth would probably sound amazing, to me. I don't find one easier to tune than the other, but they do sound very different...

Re: Drum gear gimmicks that didn't really catch on

Don't be knockin' Tama Stilts. They are awesome:

To be honest, they are a bit extreme for most kits. They are great for huge...

Re: Wondering what my Tama Artstar II is worth

They look like 22x16, 12x11, 13x12, 16x16. Pretty common sizes for late 80's/early 90's

Re: Do you have better luck selling shell packs or complete sets?

The more you package in the deal, the less money you get. Sell it in logical "sets". Matching shell pack. That's a set. A snare? That can go on its own or as part of the kit if someone wants it....

Re: Prices on Asian built drums going up?

I already own 5 kits and am building a 6th. I have 4 full sets of hardware and 60+ cymbals. So I'm in no rush to buy anything. When prices go up, it means I wait a bit longer to buy. Wait for...

Re: Next Stage Custom?

I have an old Tama Rockstar 14" hanging tom that has 6 lugs and it sounds fantastic. It could be the luan shell that is helping to bring out the lows and absorbing any high frequencies which birch...

Re: Next Stage Custom?

Oh my God! Who fu@king cares??? It's just a picture of a Stage Custom with a black bass drum hoop.

Get over it!

Re: Struggling with Renowns

Yeah, that's kind of what I was getting at but didn't explain it very well. This is why I find tuning low with diecast difficult because you tighten one lug, the whole rim flexes and the neighboring...

Re: Struggling with Renowns

Honestly, I think its the diecast hoops more than it is the odd lug pattern. I had good luck tuning my Catalina Maples and those had 5 lugs on the 8/10/12 toms. Just use the normal star pattern...

Re: Struggling with Renowns

Unfortunately, a swap isn't the easiest of things to do because of Larry's comments about 5 lug drums. You can buy new hoops at drum factory direct, but I would try swapping the floor tom hoops...

Re: Struggling with Renowns

Do they have diecast hoops or the 302 hoops? I find diecast hoops to be really difficult to get low tunings on because they flex way too easily when tension is put on them leading to wildly...

Re: Next Stage Custom?

Certain configurations of the Decade Maple come with a "virgin" bass drum. The ones that come with the mount don't actually have big holes through the bass drum. Just 4 mounting holes for the tom...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

Well, there is a "uniqueness" factor that has played part in my gear choices, I will admit. I wanted a high end maple kit, so I got the DW's. I really enjoyed them. Really I can't say anything bad...

Re: DW Design Series Snare Hoops

Just the snare is 2.3mm. The tom hoops are "graduated". 1.6mm on the 8/10" toms and 2.0mm on the 12/14/16/18" toms.

Re: DW Design Series Snare Hoops

The PDP Concept snares come with 2.3mm hoops, so the Design Series hoops are likely 2.3mm as well.

Re: Next Stage Custom?

Sounds like your "Next Stage Custom" is a PDP Concept Maple/Birch. Graduated counter hoops, fine pitch tension rods, DW style tom suspension, Mag throw off, tons of pre-packaged configurations, tons...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I have owned "high end" kits (DW Collectors, Yamaha Recording Custom, Pearl Reference Pure) and I have owned "low end" kits (PDP Concept Maple, Concept Birch, Tama Rockstar, etc...). In the end, I...

Re: Inde vs C&C

They are totally different kits and they will not sound alike. The player date II is designed to have a fatter, wetter sound with a shortened sustain. The Inde's by comparison are thin shelled,...

Re: Stain Matching - Mapex Transparent Midnight Black

Does the Mapex tom have any underlying color tones other than the black? My Saturn kit in Transparent black has hues of green under the black which is achieved by having a "tealish-blue" stain...

Re: Recording custom question

The early RC's (I think the first couple years of production) did have painted/stained bearing edges. The edges were also a different profile (I think they were full roundovers/baseball bat style)...

Re: TAMA Starclassic "Back to the Basics" line?

Starclassics started in 1994. Take a look through Tama's catalogue archive and see if you can find the kit in those.

Re: Premier tom mount and post

Probably 1" downtube with a 9.5mm rod. It looks a bit smaller than the 10.5mm size and it's definitely not a 12.7mm. Why don't you ask the store that is selling it?
