Re: Another *&^%$# Bar Owner

We've just started to make the occasional few quid by doing as you suggest, organising the gigs ourselves.

I guess it's like making that step from working for the man to going self employed....

Re: ALBUMS THAT HAD AN LASTING IMPACT ON YOUR DRUMMING

When I came back to drumming after my first marriage, a break of about 10 years, I wanted to play along on my E Drums to bands and songs which were played at similar paces to the music our band...

Re: Does playing covers change you?

Playing covers sucked every piece of life out of me I'm afraid.

Far happier creating original music.

Re: Band vent....

That's the flip side of the coin and the reason I'm so reluctant to just call it a day. I've probably had as much fun with the guys messing around, filming videos to our tunes as I have doing...

Re: Band vent....

He would....but he writes the lyrics, learns the songs, turns up prepared, and always helps with the drum equipment and amps. No way should he have to drive 30 miles to basically wipe the guitarist's...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I think he plays it wonderfully.

I'm not a great fan of Queen or that song, but I can listen to it played like that.

Just goes to show eh :-)

Band vent....

Nothing which we've not heard on this forum a gazillion times....

But why is there always one completely lazy arsehole in every band I've ever played in who completely brings the band down, holds...

Re: The being fired or quitting thread

That's the basic equivalent of being fired but the boss couldn't be arsed commuting up to tell you in person, so they sent a letter instead.

Been there !!

Re: How to handle this situation

Given that you are a covers band....

Before you walk, if it's your intention to walk anyway, why not talk to the other musicians and ask if THEY want to form a band of equals with you.

Then...

Re: Giving bandmates rides to gigs!

Can't understand why it would actually bother you...

You're going to the gig anyway....what's it matter someone grabbing a ride off you as long as you're not actually adding to your cost ?

Just...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I see your point....I hadn't focused specifically on the vociferous nature of the choice of word.

Yes, "can't" implies some kind of allergy, or maybe some kind of very serious history involving...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I've had bad experiences in bands that have taken on female singers. Not entirely (or necessarily remotely) the fault of the women, but the dynamic amongst a male band, especially if the males are...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

YEAHHHH.....all the time.

"What are you girls up to this lunchtime....want to go pub?"

My Boss...."ask the girls if they can assist you"

"Do you girls need to go early to get ready for the...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

If you are someone who would find offence, or something negative, in a guy telling you that "you are a good drummer" then personally I think you'll never find any level of equality which would...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

No I get your point. But I do think they are running things the way they want.

As soon as they get a taste of the gravy they fall into the conformous nature of 'take, take and take'. Almost...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

There's plenty of females in UK Government and Opposition.

They seem largely to be as corrupt, and completely incompetent, as the men.

One of my local MPs is Hazel Blears. Fiddled her expenses...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Just a taste thing I'd say.

It's allowed. I don't particularly like reggae, rap, and many other styles of music dominated by black musicians. Doesn't make me racist. It's just not to my taste....

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Personally I just think it's a lack of intelligence actually.

I mean, we're all products of the environment we were brought up in. Jesus, my dad was rabidly racist. I'm not (but I was as a kid). I...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Good god you're so right.

The live music scene I'm into (punk/mod), the level of bigotry, racism especially, is astonishing. It's like it's still in the 1970s.

Gods honest truth this, MLC...
