Re: I'm in a Band - And I Have a Problem

So ..... are you in this band (the one you want most), or are you just auditioning? Auditioning for a band is not the same as being offered a gig. Don't quit the band you just joined, unless you know...

Re: Sonor-king of the micro kits?

That's because he's endorsed by Sonor. All depends on what kind of money you wanna spend. The Sonor is a good little kit, for the money. Personally, the Whitney Penguin nesting kit, is my favorite,...

Re: Dilemma in choosing a drum kit. Please help!

For your "first" drum kit, both options work. My personal vote would be the used Mapex kit. The Planet Z cymbals are bottom of the rung Zildjians. But, The 3 Sabian AA's (info here ...

Ludwig started maple.poplar/maple in 1968. And used that as it's basic shell formula, until the introduction of the 6 ply (straight) shell, in 1976. info. ...

Re: I've got the "looper" blues

Having a monitor behind you might solve the problem. You need to hear the loop, to be able to follow it.

Those are the same sizes he's listed as having. 8x7, 10x8, 12x9 rack toms, 14x12 floor ..... and a 22x18 bass. http://www.cobuspotgieter.com/equipment/ Some of his kits show an added second floor...

Re: Old school rock bass drum setup.

The Pinstripe head, came out, in 1974. So yeah .... before that, we made our own Ritchie rings, and used felt strips. And lots of people still use those methods, today.

My two favorite snares (and have been for awhile) are my Yamaha 13x6 Musashi .... and my Pearl Omar Hakim 13x5.

21 year old reso's. Yeah, time to replace those. And Pins that are "a few years old", those, as well. The Power V Specials (info here ..... http://mikedolbear.com/story.asp?StoryID=3394) are not...

Re: Peavey Radial Pro 501 for $180?

Unless the drums are just a total mess, well worth $180.

Re: A Question To Those That Collect A Number Of Drum Kits

Yes, I fall into this category. I have 3 Ludwig kits, a Premier kit, a Gretsch Round Badge kit, and an RMV kit. I also have some electronics. 2 Korg Wave drums, 2 Mandala V1's, a Roland SPD-S, and a...

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

If you notice, ISS suspends the drum from the rim, between only two lugs. That puts a lot of torque on just that one small area of the rim. A RIMS (or derivative) will suspend the drum at four...

Re: The old Pearl Exports??

Treat them well, and they should last you a long, long, time. As others have stated, the ISS mounts are not so great. Many ways to fix/work around those, however. Personally, I went with Gauger...

Re: Opinions on what to do with these old ludwig Classic Maples?

Depends on how much work (and money) you want to throw into the project. Those shells probably have a nice maple exterior, but you'll only find that out after you de-wrap 'em. Personally, I like wood...

Re: Removing the wrap from old Ludwigs?

De-wrapping can be a real pain. In the case of your mixed years, I think 67 shells will be mahogany exterior, and 69 shells will be maple exterior. So you're gonna wind up with unmatched shells, once...
