Re: 1970s Ludwig Vistalite Jelly Bean kit

Rad stuff, man. Nice job cleaning them up, and the EMAD batter looks sharp on the bass drum.

Out of curiosity, can these shell colours be changed (even temporarily) by adding a clear coloured...

Re: Fascinating ...

He makes a good point, but it's a little idealistic; musicians make things work in order to keep working.

If all we did was concentrate on what mattered, most of us would probably have a hard time...

Loose - the way I like it, but there's something to say about Steve Ferrone.

Re: Do you use those low noise cymbals and sound dampening for quiet practice?

Yes, they (L80 low-volume cymbals and mesh heads) are the next best thing to real drums and cymbals. Maybe not so much the silent stroke bass drum head, but the rest are great.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

What do you think of the AAX12" Splash? I'm thinking of picking one up to go with my 16 and 18" AAX Explosion Crashes.

Re: Thought Experiment

I think it does, for me at least. I practice at home using a double pedal and a bass drum practice pad, but I only play on a single pedal. When I practice, I try to learn everything on my left foot...

Re: Next Biographical Film of Musical Artist?

I'm thinking Bowie or Prince.

Dirt was entertaining.

Cream would have to be Rated R for drug use alone, never mind Baker's personality.

Re: Drum notation software

I use Reflow, it's inexpensive, easy to use and syncs across my laptop, iPad and iPhone.

Two things I don't like about it is that it can't score drags, and, on playback, flams sound awful.

Does...

Just what you need to make you feel better...

Most of us know to sing "Pat Boone, Debbie Boone" and other vocalizations for various drum fills and patterns.

One fill that has always given me a difficult time to feel and play properly is the...

Re: Practice troubles

It sounds like you're not seeing any rewards as of late.

Read this forum thread, http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164816, for ideas on how to change or pretty much overhaul your...

Re: Random idea of the day

I'm thinking he may be drinking some of that "tea" he's been talking about over in the saving for gear thread.

Ahh, the crux of patent law - permitting the straight-up appropriation of someone...

And don't forget good old-fashioned, honest-to-goodness thieving!

Are you referring to one of these?...

Re: Sacrificing concepts during practice.

Same thing happened to me recently. It was a bit unnerving at first - like burying the click for the first time.

Thanks for blog. I enjoyed the article and got a lot out of it (a great...

Re: What if we quantized Bonham?

What I wrote was what I felt listening to Bonham's original part (using Beato's words).

What you wrote is what I felt listening to the quantized version.

Sounded like propaganda performance.

What if we quantized Bonham?

Breathe. Human. Energy.

Has anyone seen this?

Thoughts?

Re: A dozen ways to save for gear...

There's something to be said for making sacrifices. Life lessons at least. It also sweetens the reward.

Bingo! Take care of your things, and they'll take care of you.

I find that by using...

Re: Recording to a click shenanigans

Two very good points, both on their own but particularly in conjunction with one another. If one or the other doesn't help allay your worries, knowing both are true should.

Re: Recording to a click shenanigans

Yeah, I agree with larry on this. Nothing too egregious though. Plus, I like some of your fills.

Wish I could add more to this, but I simply don't know enough about digital recording to do so....

Re: Recording to a click shenanigans

I think the issue is that, when laying down parts to a click track, the click track is the reference point and all of the parts are playing to it. When you take it out after having laid down all of...

Re: How do I position each of the drums in the kit?

In all fairness, it seems as if he has listened to some of the suggestions as to how to setup his kit... it's just that I don't think that his kit is suited for a beginner.

But, you know what,...

Re: Ever had a band or genre of music that you shouldn't like...but you do?

So glad to hear you've been turned on to some classical music!

And, I'm assuming you're talking about Gustav Holst's "The Planets". If so, tell me it isn't one of the most intense and heavy piece...
