Re: 13x6" Ahead COB vs. Ludwig Supralite

Brass is a more versatile sound than steel IMO. Do the Ahead; all the word on the street I ever had was that it's a great drum. (I was seriously angling for one at one point, and it's still on my...

Re: Bass Drum Legs Broken, Drum Moves

Most spurs will work, it's just a matter of whether you will need to drill or not. Good to hear you are working with what you have ... a lot of those "entry-level" kits will work well if you put time...

Re: Greg Bissonette leaves Mapex

So I listened to the (very eq'ed) video, and you know what? Dixon Drums sound just like other drums when put under studio conditions. I think they've done well to forge a relationship with an artist...

Re: Bass Drum Legs Broken, Drum Moves

You can, in fact, get replacement legs from other manufacturers and replace one or both spurs, for anywhere between $30 and $100. Gibraltar makes great ones, but also Cannon, Dixon, etc. Some...

Re: How Does Your Bass Drum Sit?

I like to get the bottom of the front rim an inch or two off the ground -- beaters as close to vertical as possible, keeps the shell off the ground more (helps to create a fuller sound).

Re: What Haven't You Played Yet but Really Want To?

Prior to the big realignment of Yamaha's drum lines I was certain I would be buying a set of Recording Customs for a retirement present. Now that I've ended up with a set of vintage 3-ply Ludwigs,...

Re: Got called for a Session, YAY! Gear Upgrade?

I agree, go for the ride. If I were you, I'd take all your snares with, play with tuning, and find one that fits. Snares are pretty versatile, but a cymbal does exactly what's on the tin.

Re: rare yamaha stage custom ive bought

Hi huangmi, the first picture shows your spurs on your set. You have them set so far forward, your bass drum is resting on the floor.

The second picture shows the angle you should have, so that...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Haven't purchased much of anything lately (smirk)...

But I got gifted an older-version DW 6000 flat-base hi-hat stand and won a $100 music shop gift card, which I cashed in on a 10-channel Yamaha...

Re: rare yamaha stage custom ive bought

I hate to tell you, friend, but that kit is quite the opposite of rare. I own one, too. It's very simply the first generation of the Stage Custom line, made with a mix of birch and Philippine...

Re: Any information regarding Gretsch Black Hawk drum set

Probably the same "not-Gretsch" Blackhawks I got the year prior. They certainly aren't bad-sounding drums, I played mine for close to 15 years, especially after adding new heads and such. They did...

Re: Staining drum heads with coffee

I love coffee. I could see myself trying it just for the aroma I'd get every time I open up my bass drum case.

Re: Reinforcing rings

Stick should never hit bearing edges. Even if you're doing rimshots, that's the rim you're hitting, which doesn't impact the bearing edge at all. The impacts on the head are (ideally) evenly...

Re: Songs with fast / tricky single bass drum patterns

You know, I went back and listened to it off the box set CD. You may be right; I have just never clearly heard any of it past the four-on-the-floor. I tend to play it that way to lock in with the...

Re: Songs with fast / tricky single bass drum patterns

"Trampled Under Foot" is mostly just four-on-the-floor... I would throw in "When the Levee Breaks" and "Achilles Last Stand"... heck, throw in the entire Zeppelin catalog if you're looking for tricky...

Re: What's with the Stage Custom snare?

Oftentimes it's not that anything's wrong with it, but we have another snare that is our favorite. Or, like I did, we bought the kit with no snare for that reason.

I have never owned a kit with a...

Re: Ludwig Standard bass pedal?

The Standard shells were the same quality as the more expensive Ludwigs... but the hardware was not. Even the lugs were cheaper quality. The stands and pedals were pretty typical entry-level stuff...

Re: Double Bass at Home vs. at the Gig

You know, it's almost certainly nerves. That doesn't mean you're nervous, it means the adrenaline is pumping and you are feeling different because you're not at home, you're playing live without a...

Re: This kit vs. this other kit

Hi daktari, looks like we live pretty close together.

You've passed one big hurdle we usually get with first-time a-kit buyers, which is buy quality used kits. Kudos to you for that.

On how to...

Re: Pearl sensitone elite reveiw

I have the Sensitone Elite black over brass, and I wouldn't give it up for anything. I've really come to love its sound. I can scarcely imagine a Black Beauty sounding all that much better, and even...

Re: Yamaha stage custom

Tell your friend to look on Craigslist. It's usually possible to find a used SC within 300 miles. You'll get it for much, much less than $1000. Probably about $300 or so.

I live in the US, so you need to look at wherever used things are sold in your country. Can't much help you there, dude.
