Re: Unanswered Threads

I don't have a problem with unanswered threads, but I've noticed that discussions about "World Drums" tend not to get answered. Which is awfully strange for a forum called drummer world... More...

Re: A few recording questions

I'm going to have to disagree. You can get professional grade or better tracks out of simple recording schemes(as long as the mics and recording hardware are good), the reason pro recording studios...

Re: Going to shows of a band you got rejected from a good idea?

No not really. Maybe once and a while to see if they have any new material, if they ask where you were say "home practicing."

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

OMG, you mean all the brands are made at the same factory in China, the only difference being who picks out and bids for which lot, and what label they stick on it? Naw say it's not so.

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

Did they also put a lacquer finish on them? I think Fender was prime innovator in dodging EPA regulations I'm sure they used that trick multiple times.

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

They also sell pitched bass drums with pitch matched heads and precision threaded tuners. Compared to the other manufacturers that continue to insist that drums are unpitched instruments, and...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

I'm hardly a fanboy, but I've often drooled over the DW set, because I was able to get a used DW kick pedal, which is killer. I think the thing that I like about the DW products is their...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

I think people choose between playing guitar and drums everyday.

Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

Sounds like an argument I(6'7") had with my Dad (6'3") about splitting firewood. My dad worked construction laying rock for a living, I was a tall thin drink of water. My Dad always but the...

Re: Kinda miss those 80's kits!!

I think those big kits never really caught on because there is a lack of tuning knowledge and expertise, and most of the bass drums were just duplicates. And drummers don't really know what to do...

Whistles and Drumming

I've been playing my collection of whistles and animal calls while I play my drums. I know It's common in samba, as well as other south and Central American music especially Mayan. I few months ago...

Re: DW aquires Gretsch and Latin Percussion...

Why? It seems auspicious that a drum company owns the drum brands rather than a guitar company. Of course it implies that these lines weren't all that profitable, but I can't say that they were all...

Re: HELP, permanent beastmode

I've never noticed height my height to be the cause of loudness. I find the keeping the sticks low is pretty easy and straight forward. Moving around the set at tempo and low dynamics, it's hard use...

Re: Being in an X band, playing shows with crappy Y bands

Every half stack sounds the same, and I don't stick around long enough to find out what that sound is.

Re: Diplomacy isn't dead, but...

Seems like a prime application for sheet music, fake books. I have several, blues, rock, bluegrass, jazz... It takes the pressure off knowing what's where and how, and if your part isn't written it...

Re: BPM recall ability

Dancers are also really good at this. Each dance, jive, samba, tango, waltz, etcetera has a specific tempo range and they systematically categorize tunes into these ranges. Though they usually use...

Re: BPM recall ability

Not a pro, but I calculate the beats between common chords. For example certain inversions of A minor have a beat at 60 bpm, there is a spread sheet with beats in piano intervals floating around on...

Re: Acoustic Foam

A lot depends on your apartment/house to begin with. Followed up by how you want to play. My home is a single family, I play jazzy things, I modified my kick beater so it only goes back a couple...

Re: Mic for stereo effects

The behringer C-2 matched seem good for that, now the real question, "What is the best configuration for bird sounds and such"

Re: Acoustic Foam

Double stud construction. Basically a wall is two walls that don't touch in between. I think town homes (usually luxury models) built this way can have a 80db or more attenuation. They are...

Mic for stereo effects

What kind of microphone(s) are good for recording stereo sound effects? Like the way Luis Conte does in his DVD when he talks about overlaying "toys"? I recently picked up a few Mayan whistles, and...

Re: drums song

It's a limitation of your culture. Some cultures have bonafied drum songs. Brazil for example has massive parades where everyone learns the drum parts to a song that was selected for that years...

Re: Heavy music, where did the ride go?

Now they call it heavy, notice how they lump it all into one. I guess it would be easy to dig on every one and say any more there is no skilled metal or even hard rock, just punk. However, I think...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I confess I watch these, but mainly because it's the only way to get drum related video content.

I also find it annoying when people aren't true to the form. In the broader sense of not just...
