Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

The whole "everything must be perfectly flat" thing is baffling to me. I remember it first started becoming a huge fad around the time Travis Barker got huge. Before then, people would just put...

Re: Current drum trends you wish would go away

Well, everyone has their own preferences. I mean, my phone can do WAY more than I use it for. Does that mean I shouldn't own it? Dude spent his money on gear he likes... You don't have to be a...

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

I wonder why they would use the cheaper brackets/spurs/etc, and only put 8 lugs on the kick, as opposed to putting it in the Starclassic line... Especially at $1800 USD.

Re: Heads over Shells

I would say the bearing edges play a pretty significant part in how a drum sounds.

Re: guitarist using "the force"

I would bet the same. There are quite a few throwbacks in the movie to explain stuff from the original trilogy.

Re: guitarist using "the force"

You have apparently not seen "Solo". They explain that he is able to make the run in a shorter distance by traveling through wormholes. Yes, I am part dork, on my mother's side.

Simple fix... Put the handles down on those top cases ;-)

Re: Concert style tom's

I agree. And with how popular all those portable kits seem to be, I'm really surprised people haven't fully jumped on board with the stackablility of concert toms. I think it's just a matter of...

Re: Concert style tom's

You never know. This stuff goes in cycles. I've definitely seen more concert tom talk than usual lately on the forums I frequent. I'd guess that concert toms will get popular again within the next...

Re: Anyone just play drums for themselves only?

Wrong? Of course not. Just because you enjoy doing something, doesn't mean you have to do it for anyone else. I mean, I enjoy sex. But I don't think I'd enjoy it as much if I had to schlep a bed...

Re: Concert style tom's

Sounds like mesh heads on the bottom could be the answer if you have a two-headed tom, but want a concert tom.

Re: Concert style tom's

A lot of lugs rattle when not under tension. So then, you'd have to remove all the bottom lugs too, leaving a bunch of exposed holes. Also, leaving the hoops/cut heads on offers more bearing edge...

Re: Concert style tom's

I bet that's coming very soon. I've noticed more and more drummers showing interest in concert toms lately. I'm thinking a comeback is right around the corner.

Re: quality of drum sounds to the rest of the band is not important

So, they are all dialing in their "perfect sounds", while telling you that you can't use brushes to achieve YOUR "perfect sound"? Screw them. You don't tell them how to use their instruments. Why...

Re: Concert style tom's

Has anyone here tried just cutting a small hole in their bottom tom heads, and pointing the mics toward/slightly inside the holes, like a bass drum? What were the results?

Re: Different, unique, or just wacky set-ups

Look closely... There's a Trick throw-off on that beast, by the bass drum hoop.

... Also, while it's not a weird "drum set", per se, this is definitely a weird set of drums:

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

Man, that seems like a pretty severe angle to be the only option. I wonder why they'd go so high with it.

Re: time keeping/ guitarists

If the band decides on a speed that feels right for the song, and then uses a click that is that speed whenever they perform it, it will always sound/feel "good" to the audience. It's not about...

Re: time keeping/ guitarists

That's one benefit to playing to a click... As long as you're on the click, they have no leg to stand on.
