Re: Cymbal choke

I catch the cymbal between the pad of my thumb and the outside of my bent pointer finger. Sticks stay curled between my fingers/palm, and only my thumb really moves. If I am choking two cymbals...

Re: Why don't more matched grip drummers play open grip?

I am mixed. I play matched grip. I have a left ride and a right ride. They mainly get played with the corresponding hand, although I will play the left ride with my right hand. I lead my hats mostly...

Re: What is your least favorite concession you made in your set up?

My hi hat. Yes it sounds silly, the hats are such a main part of the kit. My left foot having a kick pedal is more important, so the hats are farther away than I would like. I want 15" hats, that...

Re: Rank the brands

Wow I'm surprised to hear this. Not because they are Yamahas, but because you basically just said you don't have a connection with your own instrument. Isn't that a bummer? A vehicle, sure. But an...

Re: It's official! I'm a Metal Head!

Awesome job! A bit of drummerly advice about metal, metalheads do listen to the drums. Big fills are just as important to the non musician metalhead. They will notice if a giant fill is wrong or...

Re: What should I do?

Is one pedal wire frame and the other have a base plate?

Re: It's official! I'm a Metal Head!

Bwahaha my boots were black Nam era style jump boots! And I can't do shorts, my knees rub the snare. But yeah, metal drummer uniform for sure!

Re: Should I say something? If so, how?

I see this a few different ways. If it were me, since they rent and are paying, I would leave them alone. If they were friends and rented it would be different. I would almost feel obliged to help my...

Re: What should I do?

This was my initial thought too.

Are the heads the same age? Are the drums the same (not just the size)? Could be many things.

Re: It's official! I'm a Metal Head!

Welcome to the club! Now go get some camo pants and a black shirt with skulls!

Re: Rank the brands

1. Pearl. My list stops there. I have been playing them since 1993. It's all been coincidence, but I suppose 26 years of one brand makes me loyal.

For 2-8, draw straws or something. Better yet,...

Re: Hello

Yet you somehow willingly managed to end up in this conversation. Either you are a liar, or an attention seeking jerk who needs everyone to know what HE wants. So which is it, liar or attention...

Re: Hello

Welcome back! Glad all is well.

I imagine this place is quite a culture shock. One could argue we have no culture, or a million different versions of it.

What about cheese? Is it that we put it...

Re: Self-Doubt

This really is one of the most relaxing activities one can do. A nice bird/bug tune going on in the background, best way to waste some time ever.

Re: Philosophical Question

Neither. I want the drums to exist, but not be so crappy that it hurts the music. Nor do I want them to be so much better than the rest of the band that it becomes a problem. Put me in the middle...

Re: Self-Doubt

For every part you are critical of, find another part you did well and feel good about. Nothing wrong with being self critical as long as you give yourself credit too. Surely there are things you do...

Re: Drumming Barefoot or in Socks?

Socks or slippers. The big fuzzy bear looking ones with the claws. Yes I seriously play in them. But mostly socks.

Re: Adhesive alternatives for a re-wrap

Double sided window film tape is incredibly tacky. It's super thin and sticks to both wood and plastic. It only seems to come in the prepackaged film kit though. It isn't expensive, and you get a lot...

Re: Are there simple things you struggle with even though you've been playing a while?

Try using your ankle. Get the first hit with your toes then drop your foot for the second. You can do it in reverse too if you'd like.

Re: Opinion : Is this a strange combination ?

Sometimes I like this. Sometimes I don't. This one I do. The different colors all sort of match in an unorthodox way. It's very eclectic, I dig it.

Re: What is Classic Rock?

Haha so 100 years from now when people are chipped with processors and can make music with their minds only, will they listen to classic dubstep and have discussions about back in the day when...

Re: Good drums shops in Las Vegas?

I could hang out in a casino all day and not spend a dime and be fine. The lights, the sounds, the carpet, the just overall atmosphere. It's like being in a game show.

The gambling, I could care...

Re: What are your favorite earplugs?

If I need them, the orange spongy ones factory workers use. They cancel more noise than the green ones. I can get them for free all day long at work. Don't hardly use them anymore though. My earbuds...

Re: And I got a rack!

Awesome! Racks are cool, but I am a rack fan so slightly biased.

Do you think you will keep the rack and ultimately close the hardware rabbit hole, or do you need to gig it first and see how it...

Re: This is why i like jazz...

Okay, a few more listens in and I still find enjoyment in this. Foot Foot is great. I don't know why, but it is. My wife couldn't make it more than 20 seconds.

Every so often something like this...
