Re: SONOR phonic/lite

Sonor Hilites are the best ever. Built in the 90s under Horst link management.

Re: What are YOUR favorite drum heads? ... And why?

REMO vintage A coated on the snare and toms, over Ambassador clear. Powerstroke 3 coated on the BD, Fiberskyn 3 or Ebony on the reso side.
Never disappointed, it sounds open and warm.

Re: Vater Sticks

Just got the Vater 8A instead of the 7A, in sugar maple. These are slightly thicker than the 7A, which compensates for the light weight of maple. I love them, they are the perfect pair for me (pair...

Re: How did you acquire a taste for jazz?

Unbelievable. This story deserves a proper thread! Nice to hear Elvin was such a great man, above being such a great musician.

Re: ***Sign the DW Boycott List***

I think the tom out of shape was a major failure.
I accept some minor problem on drums as long as they sound good (they're like women, none is perfect!). Though, I think they could replace your...

Re: Why is 18" the jazz bass drum size?

Listen to old jazz records: depending on the period you will hear deep sounding bass drums, like Joe Morello on Take Five, or higher pitched ones like in Miles 2nd greta quintet with Tony Williams....

Re: 8x14" Maple Snare?

I've got a Ludwig Coliseum, 14x8" 12 lugs, it is a very good snare. I play it tuned rather high, and it is surprisingly sensitive, even on ghost notes. The extra depths bring more a woody tone to the...

STEEL WOOL 0000. (0000, and no other grade). The best.

Re: Snare Problem

First, be sure your snare is in good condition. If when unmounted some wires are loose, you might considerate changing it. Then you have to check the tuning.

Now, besides the tuning, there's also...

Re: My Gretsch Brooklyns came in today ;)

So freakin' gorgeous!!!
If I'd have enough money, I would also buy a set in these sizes.

For Rock, 16x24k, 1 up 9x13, 2 down 14x14, 16x16

For Jazz, the standard bop sizes 8x12, 14x14,...

Re: Is the type of wood being used really... really that big of a difference???

I think I can still differentiate a birch ply shell from a maple one.
But it's true that the ply construction commonly used today loses the wood character. The advantage of ply kits was, they were...

Re: Headphones for Drummers

I don't know the Roland RH-200. Other drums headphones will protect your ears but probably not sound as good as the Beyer do, so you will have to turn up the volume.
Well, do you think your ears...

Re: Headphones for Drummers

Best Headphones for drummers: Beyerdynamic Dt770M. Period. Don't buy the Vic Firth.
And I try/sell many, these are simply the best out there:
-They attenuate all frequencies more or less equally,...

Re: Sonor 3007 Vs Stage Custom

I own both.
The stage custom is by my parents in 20', 10', 12', 14' and the 3007 in my basement in 18" 12" 14" :-)
I like the 3007 much much better. It is much warmer and has more sustain. They...
