Black Beauty Head Selection?

I joined the Ludwig Black Beauty brigade yesterday with a new 6.5x14 Black Beauty. It was truly unbelievable how I got it but what heads are you guys running. I immediately took off that poo poo...

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

What I've noticed is that some people just dislike them and that they will grab hold of anything (valid or not) that supports their dislike for the company. They are competitively priced with many...

Re: NDD Take 2 Yamaha Again.... YD9000 this time.

Gorgeous kit. I have a Yamaha 8000 series (Just below the 9000 series) in the same white color on layaway at Guitar Center and it too is gorgeous. I can't wait to get it home.

DW drums being "Overpriced"

Why do people seem to think that DW drums are way more expensive than other high end brands and are "overpriced?" DW Collectors kits seem to be priced on par with Pearl Reference, Sonor Vintage...

Re: My $100 drum set

I used to have a set of PDP FS drums with a brown lacquer fade that sounded great. It had a 12 up with a 16 down and a 22 virgin kick. I got it for super cheap and should have kept that kit.

Re: My "new to me" DW Collectors

A few years ago, I bought a set exactly like that in Houston at Guitar Center for about $1100. I loved the sound of the kit and the contrast between the 10" and 16" was great in my opinion. I still...

Re: Pork Pie 14x6.5, Black over brass? Anybody?

I used to have one at a studio that I play for and it sounded so good on record. It had more than enough of the sound and mojo of a Black Beauty that we didn't see the need to "upgrade" to one. This...

Re: 14x4?

My Legend Phosphor Bronze 4x14 snare is so versatile. It can cover low and gritty all the way up to high and cracky with choking. It is super sensitive too. I love playing that snare as my main.

Re: Mapex Hammered Phosphor Bronze Snare?

I have the 5.5x13 and the 5.5x14 non hammered versions and they sound amazing! I also have found a 6.5x14 no hammered version that I am thinking of adding to the collection as well!

Re: Rock snare under $200

The Musashi oak can tune to play any genre! It is an amazing snare in my book! I love mine to death... I tune the bottom pretty tight and midrange on the top and it sounds superb! I've used it for...

Re: worth it?

I disagree that mix shells inhibit the resonance of a tom. Tama has the B/B, birch/basswood. Mapex has the maple/walnut, birch/walnut, maple/birch. DW has the maple/mahogany, maple/poplar, maple/gum...

I'm now pretty sure that it is cherry. It looks just like a snare that I saw on Hazelshould.com (link below).

Re: How do you characterize the sound of steel?

Yeah, I love this snare to death and I'd love to ad a 5x14 to my snare arsenal too. When it comes to steel, there's nothing like it. Cutting, powerful, versatile, sensitive, phat, etc. I saw some of...
