Re: When people ask you to 'play something', what do you play?

Double kick, blast beats, and Bonham triplets. That usually puts a quick end to a sometimes awkward situation.

Re: Trash or treasure?

Good question, and probably the first one to think about before any work is done.

If it is round, I say fix the spur holes and put some Pearl type spurs on it. You would have to drill a different...

Re: I need a bigger car for a bigger kick drum

Yes you can, you just aren't doing it right.

Slide the passenger seat all the way forward, then recline the seat all the way. You can now pass the drum through the door, over the passenger seat,...

Re: Legs always feel sore

DO NOT use ankle weights, especially if you play heel up. The weight from them pushes against your feet, and can cause extra stress on the ankle every time you lift your leg. I tried using them...

Re: The worst drum /cymbal purchase you ever made

Pretty much any stick with a twist. Aheads, Johnny Rabb Rhythm Saw, these synthetic wood pieces of crap I don't remember the name of (mid to late 90's, they were red and frayed like a worn shoelace...

Re: Announcement - Competition finalists.

Yes, I am okay with it. Sometimes things just seem too good to be true and I must question them. Call it a character flaw if you will, I find it to be a good way to get answers to questions I have.

Re: Announcement - Competition finalists.

First, I have no doubt that the draw was fair. The thing that made me think twice about the whole thing was the statement " Ok, I don't know if I'm supposed to post this - but here's an entry from my...

Re: Announcement - Competition finalists.

I'm sorry, but I feel I must say something.

I find this coincidentally fishy. There was an entry posted by Mr. Floegel before he was a GURU endorser. After he became an endorser, his submission...

Re: Why is it so hard for the band to follow me?!?!

Our leader, who are in worship
Drummer be thy name
Thy time is strong, thy hats are loud
On stage, as it is in practice
Give us the beat, oh human click
And forgive not our wavering's
As we...

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to insinuate that you are short. I am tall, so to me 5'6 is short. If it makes you feel any better, my wife is 5'3.

Re: A thought about definitions

Most people don't see the score when they listen to music. They let their ears and the emotion the music brings them be the judge. If they don't like the sounds, or the music doesn't speak to them on...

Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

Your kick drum is backwards. The spurs should be in the front of the drum, as well as the tom mount on the drum. Having it backwards will cause the toms to be too close to you, forcing you to have...

Re: Ah screw it! I'm cheating...

I have a torn opinion on this. That is a rather iconic opening to a song. Being able to nail it not only pays the utmost respect to both Don Brewer and the song itself, but it also brings forth major...

Re: A thought about definitions

I think in todays society that pop music is music for the masses. Slayer, to use your example, will never be for the masses. While Slayer is popular amongst almost ALL metalheads, Slayer will never...

Re: Good trade?

Good call. I have been wanting to recover my Pearls, this kit might make a good practice tool for doing so.

Thanks guys, I thought it was too. Was wondering others thoughts about it since...

Good trade?

A guy I work with had some drums in his closet that he doesn't use, minus the floor tom which served as a bedside table. He told me I could have the drums for a table. So for a $25 table and a $15...

Re: Bass pedal control

Give this a try, it is a heel up method.

Start the first stroke by dropping your whole foot, so the bottom of your foot is about parallel to the ground when the beater hits the head.

The...

Re: In need of a shallow bass drum, what's out there?

The kick is double headed, only the toms are not.

Re: Batter / Resonant

I have always used the same method as Mr. Maxwell. When I learned how to tune long ago, it was explained to me that the batter gives you your note and the reso gives you the body (thud or boing) of...

Re: The best reasons to become a drummer?

I became a drummer because I wanted to, nothing more. It was an urge I had ever since I was a small child. The drums have always stuck out to me in music, and I always wanted to play them. After 23...

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own

I have a cymbal that is supposedly from the 1930's. There is only 1 piece of info on the internet about it that hasn't come directly from a post here I made about it. The cymbal is stamped EL RAJAH...

Re: Weird vintage bass drum hole?

The kick drum looks hungry with that giant mouth like hole in the front. You may want to feed it some laundry.
