Re: Ever had a band practice or jam session with you facing the wall?

I haven't watched the video, but I've had some people come jam at my studio and currently my kit faces the wall.

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

Same! I only use what I need for the gig. Sometimes thats a 4pc kit, sometimes thats 6. I always have 2 snares, and on tour I bring two kick pedals. My cymbal setup is only what I use for that...

Re: 4-up, 2-down question

The only way to know is to try it out.

I actually own a bunch of the rack clamps from one of his kits. Not exactly sure if it's from this kit or another one.

Re: Is the drummer population aging?

Are you speaking specifically on this forum, or forums like it?

I think it may have to do with the progression of technology. Message boards like this one, came into play as a community builder...

Re: Has anyone started playing out after turning 50 years old?

My Mother didn't technically start after 50, she played when she was a kid, and continued to tinker around her whole life, but she didn't actually get behind the kit with a band and take it more...

Re: Why would one need an Endorsement Deal?

This isn't surprising at all. Companies keep an eye on their artists, and I've had a few occasions when a photo had surfaced with me using another brand. My companies picked up the phone or sent an...

Re: Taking charge of your posters

Over the years I've ended doing a number of graphic related work for groups I've been in. Posters, CD jackets, T-shirts, websites, even some of the official logo designs. But I also have a degree in...

Re: Why would one need an Endorsement Deal?

If the product in question is attached to some unwanted negative press or exposure, or an artist has a bad reputation.

Bill Cosby was a big Zildjian guy for many many years, I don't think they...

Re: Why would one need an Endorsement Deal?

If you have a signature product with a company you typically get a royalty on each unit sold. It's not an actual paycheck, just a small, and I mean SMALL percentage of the profits form said product. ...

I do gigs here and there that are billed as "solo gigs" but I am always accompanied by a DJ.

Re: Working at a music store

I worked in a few music stores when I was younger. Both mom & pop shops, and the big chain location. I'll say this, the mom & pop stores are 1000x better. I really HATE the chains stores and working...

Re: The hidden life of the drummer :(

What I hate is that I frequently get tagged on social media in photos that you can't see me in. A cymbal or mic stand covering my face from that angle. Or just a shot of my elbow behind a singer or...

Re: Pros who play low-ish end or midrange kits?

Myself and a handful of other Yamaha artists frequently tour with Stage Customs. No other reason than they are rock solid, and sound fantastic.

Prior to getting my Live Custom, my main gig/tour...

Re: How do the pros practice for so long?

Here's my daily for days that I DON'T have a gig or recording session:

•Wakeup 8am-ish
•Exercise 30-45 min
•Breakfast
•Practice 3 hours (Warmup exercises, technique, grooves, and/or any...

Re: Raising your game to work with pro's. Tips, tricks and advice?

A lot of the things have been touched on already, but I'll add my $0.02

Show up prepared. Know the material inside and out before stepping into a rehearsal room. Play the parts as close to the...

Re: Problem with Drum Student

I've been digging for that mutual ground for months and can't seem to come up with it. Once at the start of a lesson I said "Hey, what's new?!?" and her reply was "What do you mean by that?"

Re: Anyone ever custom ordered a kit?

My current Yamaha Live Custom was a "custom job" in sorts.

I ordered the shell sizes and finished that I wanted, and then had them instal a tom mount on the 24" kick, as it doesn't come standard...

Re: WorldMax snare?

WorldMax makes and sells shells and parts to a number of the other brand name companies.

I own a couple snares from them, however I bought them through another brand and discovered the identical...

Re: Problem with Drum Student

Lots of great opinions and suggestion here. Thank you all.

Many of the things that were brought up are things I've tried with this student. Tried to figure out what kind of music she likes, focus...

Problem with Drum Student

So, on the opposite side of the "teacher issue" discussion going on, I have a student problem.

In all my years teaching privet lessons (17 to be exact) I've never once come across this scenario. ...
