Re: Drinking beer at a gig

We played a festival this weekend in the Cincinnati area and I had a beer while staging gear while the band before us was playing their last set. Temperatures were in the 90s, humidity was high, and...

Flaw in Green Glass Glitter finish

There's a used DW Collectors kit in Green Glass Glitter finish for sale at GC and the 13" tom has what looks like a burn mark in the finish. I spoke w/ the store's drum guy after he sent me some...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

19" Instanbul Mehmet Sultan Sizzle Jazz Ride, new. $150 delivered. Not something I would normally play, I couldn't pass up the deal. May end up for sale after I try it out at rehearsals next week.

Re: Modern Drummer cover generator

Yeah, the "as little as $25" didn't show up in the sarcastic font I tried to use.

Last time I picked up any print drum magazines was for travel last year.

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

I used to lament the fact that both my Granstar 10" and 11" toms were 10" deep and sounded too similar. Then I started experimenting w/ different heads on them and found that using a thicker head on...

Re: If you could educate the public about one thing concerning drumming/percussion, what would it be

...that drummers appreciate having a roadie more than a groupie, more than anyone else in the band. If we're lucky, they're one-in-the-same: A Groadie...or is it a Roapie?

Re: Why so many C & C kits on TV

Is that a derivative of "It's all Greek to me?" -making everything Greek?

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

If I were in a setup where it made sense financially and logistically to have a tech, then yes, I would change my set up. Right now I run 2 up 1 down, 2 crashes, 1 ride, hats, and a splash. W/ a tech...

Re: Stones backline

Yup, DW snare. Notice in the video the 2nd one on the back side of the riser -it's a more shallow depth.

Found this online:...

Re: Worst Badge in the Business

Wow, that's interesting. I can't imagine someone at Gretsch back then not bringing up the similarity and vetoing the lug design.

Thanks for the clarification.

Re: Worst Badge in the Business

I don't mind admitting I like DW Drums (both the gear and the company -I've had really good experiences with them).

But as much as I like DW, I'm bothered by the DW-styling on the lugs of this...

Masters of Resonance trailer

This popped up in my social media feed today. It looks interesting and I'm guessing it'll be along the lines of the show "How It's Made" but with a bit more humor & story telling. I'm sure someone...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I picked up a Gretsch Oak Stave 14x6.5 snare drum after John Wesley brought it up in another thread. $260 new from Amazon. I was going to buy a couple more and resell them at that price but when I...

Re: Need info on Gretsch model Oak stave snare drums

Mine arrived just a few minutes ago and it looks great and yes, has some weight to it. I wasn't sure if I'd get the round or square badge. I rec'd a square badge version.

Interestingly, even...

Re: Need info on Gretsch model Oak stave snare drums

I contacted Gretsch (DW) about the differences and they said they're the same drum. When the badge was changed, they added a digit to the model number. Both from Taiwan.

I'll agree w/ what others have said about weeding things out up front to make it a better experience.

Re: Need info on Gretsch model Oak stave snare drums

Both are made from 30 7/8" staves, have 45-degree bearing edges, triple-flange hoops, and same strainer.

The only difference I could find is that the round badge version appears to be made in...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Being the guy in charge and who writes the checks eliminates that. I've kindly made it known that as soon as I get my gear loaded at the end the gig, the sooner everyone gets paid. ;-)
