Re: Those of you who use less cymbals...

One of the most inventive and creative drummers I have ever seen was using a one up one down kit, with hats and a single 20"crash ride, that's it. The variation in sounds he got from the CR, and...

Re: Jazz Drummer v Metal Drummer

/\ This. A drum should sound like a drum. No wonder kids are surprised when they hear an acoustic kit played in a room, without amplification. That's why lots of newer drummers are not pleased with...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Punters are more clued up than most covers band musicians think. They dont always want to hear Mustang Sally, yet again. If you have a vocalist with an absolutely amazing soul voice, or you do it in...

Re: What's the worst drumming advice you've ever received?

Re: Should I Quit Band Due to Constant Critiques By Singer?

Tell her you are the drummer and you do the drumming, she is the singer and should concentrate on her singing. A band is the sum of its different parts, what we bring to the party is what makes the...

Re: No Talent Hack, But Loving It....

Its a nice sentiment, but not true. You could work at something 20 hours a day, for ever, but if you have no aptitude for it or don't have the physical attributes you will never make it to the top....

Re: Nick Mason - Thoughts

[/B]

Exactly. Because they knew he would come up with something that fit the feel and mood of the songs perfectly. They knew what they would get and liked it. End of story.

Re: Why would one need an Endorsement Deal?

Its a bit of a misnomer because its the musician that is endorsing the manufacturers product, not the other way round. The musician is by default saying "This is the best (insert product) I have ever...

Re: Nick Mason - Thoughts

Possibly, but for me its about feel. Floyd were all about creating moods and atmospheres. Being sensitive to the music, and more so, to the vocals, was paramount to the end result. With Floyd less...

Re: No Talent Hack, But Loving It....

I love you Madge, we all do, but, my daughter sat at a kit for the first time in her life, after half an hour she was playing a 4/4 groove, BD, Hi-hat, snare in perfect syncro, no problem. Now she...

Re: Forum Views Drum Gear vs. Forum Views Drum Technique..

Its like all hobbies, fixations, obsessions. Better gear or more gear, will make you better. Ha, if only.

Re: No Talent Hack, But Loving It....

Agreed. I almost signed up for some lessons in Jazz drumming when my bass player mate invited me to audition for the Jazz quartet he was in. Then I spoke to a Jazzer mate of mine and he said...

Re: No Talent Hack, But Loving It....

Agreed. Playing with and off others is, for me at least, what being a drummer is all about. I learned to play with my mates, who were learning guitars and bass. We made mistakes, made music, had long...

Re: No Talent Hack, But Loving It....

This. People learn in different ways and for me the best way to learn is by having fun. If you are trying a learning path and its not fun, for you personally, then find another way. Its music, there...

Re: No Talent Hack, But Loving It....

If you can keep a steady beat, you have talent.

If you can swing a beat, you have talent.

Its not about how fast you can play or how many chops you can squeeze into a song, its about nailing...

Re: How do the pros practice for so long?

Pro's can do it because its there job, they dont have to contend with working and commuting. I did a hard physical job for 25 years, 40+ hours a week, and no one asked how I managed that because it...

Re: Current drumming sucks

I only ever practice when I enjoy it. I play drums because I love it, I never turn it into a chore that "Has" to be done. If I don't feel the love I don't play. I get more out of one session when I...

Re: Does Trad grip make you "think" differently?

It would make me think differently. Its difficult enough learning new technique and new parts/songs without learning to do two different actions, one with the Left hand and one with the Right. If I...

Re: Picking out drum parts (especially kick) by ear

Listen to some Led Zep or early Deep Purple albums. Not only is the BD easy to hear, its also worth hearing and learning what those guys did with the BD.

Re: Are ahead cases worth the price tag?

If you want top quality and performance, plus longevity, you have to pay for it. They are great cases, I have a set and they are better than my Protection Racket cymbal bag, and thats a good bag.

Re: Dealing with a controlling bandmate.

You and the other guy should walk. Music is a love, and life is too short to spend it with di**s. Try to contact the ex guitarist again and see if you can get something going. Worth a try? Lots of...
