Re: Have you ever have someone in the audience tells you your playing a song wrong?

THis has been more my experience too, more so than Larry's, sometime you just need a nudge in the right direction for an unfamiliar song, and at jams, sometimes there is going to be no help coming on...

Re: When the band you're auditioning for,..

I wouldn't sweat it. Enjoy the experience and move on. Drumming is fun.

I auditioned for some guys in an old warehouse once. Ran through all the songs - they didn't give me a setlist for the...

Re: First jam tonight. Advice? Tips?

I'm really glad it went well.
One thing I've learned as I get older, I always play at home for an hour before gigs and rehearsals or such. That tends to work the kinks out for me so when I get...

Re: First jam tonight. Advice? Tips?

I've found the super cheapo way to move cymbals around is to put them all on your hi hat clutch.

Feel free to move things around when you get there to make yourself comfortable, then common...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Bravo Woolwich.
I 1000x agree. This totally matches my experiences as well. Honestly, I don't care what anyone plays the on drums, just as long as you are enjoying yourself.
Hell 75% of this board...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

Interesting question. I guess you should swing for the more commonly known version in general. A friend's band does a cover of a cover of Folsom Prison Blues that was done by a punk band, to me it...

Re: Why the same songs, when so many to choose from?

This really brings up a good point. A couple of my friends cover bands try to be really clever in their minds and play much more obscure stuff. One of them actually said they felt they were...

Re: WorldMax snare?

I have the World Max Black Hawg with single flange hoops and the aztec gold hardware. It's a terrific snare, and looks the business. I haven't had any trouble with my throw off. But the single flange...

Re: Beginner needs some advice

I also agree with this. Pretty much most kits in any given price tier are pretty similar, once you climb above the absolute bottom tier stuff. Pick a colour you like, and roll with it.

Re: What you hear behind the kit

yup a lot of truth in here today. My drums sound terrible when I play them in the basement - I also tune for lots of resonance like Hollywood Jim does. But when they are out in the open with the...

Re: T rods on bassdrum batter side at bottom vs floor tuning issue

yeah I'm trying to think back, my last kit with T-Rods had 1/2 and 1/2 normal rods, so they went around the bottom 1/2 of the drum, and the T's were on the top 1/2 at both ends. And then I realised...

Re: What drum trends do you NOT miss?

100% same for me. Exports, with Roto toms and a double pedal. lol

Re: What drum trends do you NOT miss?

not really a huge evolutionary leap from what Robert Plant and David Bowie and Mick Jagger were doing in the 70's

Re: What drum trends do you NOT miss?

you know, that statement got me thinking. Many of my musical tastes were formed by 80's hard rock bands, and I have no problems with the big crazy kits. Yes 90% was flash, but that was a huge part of...

Re: What drum trends do you NOT miss?

for me it's definitely power toms. Ughh. They sit so high over the bass drum.

Re: Question about Shell Tone and Tuning w/Tune-Bot

First - for the OP's question. I have 10, 12, 14, 16 toms, and I use the Tunebot pitch calculator with maximum resonance and -2 steps pitch, and it gives me very nice repeatable intervals, and my...

Re: Tangerine Sparkle!

Compact Drums, I don't want to derail the thread, but I've been wondering. When you wrap bass drums, I assume you wrap the hoops too. What about the ends of the hoops? Do you fold the wrap over, or...

Re: Spare parts bag for concerts

Zildjian and Gibraltar have a nice little bag of felts and assorted bits. I keep that and a few other bits and bobs in a pocket in my hardware bag. I also have another small bag for cords and stuff,...

Re: The difficult sub 1200 range

This. You have to go to the really low end to find badly made drums these days. Out of all the drums listed by the OP, I'd count them all as relatively equal. Pick the colour you like best.

The...

Really, so you post the same thing twice. It's ok to dislike her music, you posted that before. I don't see what other point you are trying to make.

I think that if anyone can find a new way to...

Re: Does anybody subscribe to Modern Drummer?

I used to buy an issue if I was in my local drum shop back in the 80's and 90's, when I was a teenager / early 20's, and like some others have said, pre internet. It's how I discovered the big names...
