Re: To rack or not to rack?

Bo, if I know you at all, I'd say you're not a rack guy. You're more old school.

Personally, I don't like the looks of racks at all. Straight, curved, gull winged, lowboy racks...they all offend...

Re: Why is it called "Decade" Maple?

I'll take that bet.

I bet a snare drum that they don't know either.

Re: Why is it called "Decade" Maple?

They could have gone the extra mile and named it Decadent Maple.

So save.

Re: Get better Andy!

Hey Andy,

On one hand, I'm relieved that you are actually able to go out and rehearse. That's pretty big. So that's a positive.

On the other hand you have to regain some former...

Re: Drum Hack: Floor Tom Sustain

Wow. Never saw this before. OK I knew a stickbag on the FT killed it, but to put some weight on the leg? Brilliant!

And I thought I'd seen it all.

Nice work fellas.

Re: Aches in my hand

Well it wasn't what I was expecting to see. It looks like your stick is indeed suspended off your palm, and you're not relying on your elbow for every hit.

So I have nothing.

Re: Aches in my hand

If you grip the stick like a hammer handle...meaning the stick is pressed against your palm...bad. There are many different ways to work the drumstick. The important thing IMO, no matter what method...

Re: Different finish kick and toms

I've never met a set of drums that offended me.

If anything, a mismatched set makes me feel like the drummer is very secure with themselves. More power to em.

It goes against the tide, and...

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

I don't know what I was thinking. My bad, you right, sorry about that. Like you said, the vocal during the rest is very rhythmic. I would hate to be a musician and not be able to keep steady time for...

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

Summertime Blues...that rest is only 1 quarter note. That's inexcusable. Laughable even.

Re: Do guitarists generally dislike rests on drums?

It's rare in my world to have a guitarist with good time and tempo sense. Of course I am not on a pro level.

If we drop out, they flounder. That's my experience. The continuity is lost until we...

Re: How do you practice?

Whatever you do, do it to a metronome. A really great time/tempo sense is absolutely the #1 job of the drummer. If that's not down, the rest doesn't matter yet.

Re: Noble and Cooley 3pc Walnut

WOW!

Eye popping grain. You must be one satisfied hombre.

N and C drums are in a class by themselves. Well done!

Re: Convince me not to buy a Saturn V...

Do it. Don't do it. She loves me, she loves me not. We all want you to get it. We really don't care about your financials :) We just care about you getting what you crave. Partially so we can...

Re: Get better Andy!

Since Andy is so well loved here, and since he gave me permission, here is the latest:

Larry, I know you care, as I do you. Really, I'm good. Biggest risk is re-occurance, that would be mighty...

Re: Die cast (again?)

Great point. If your metal snare needs a bit of taming, a die cast will do it to a certain extent. Conversely if you want to open a die casted snare up a little more, use TF.

Aluminum die casts,...

Re: Die cast (again?)

My whole drumming life practically, I was a die hard, die cast on the snares guy, until maybe 3 years ago. One day I woke up and die cast hoops on my snares just all of a sudden sounded too choked to...

Re: Get better Andy!

You're right James. Can't have the good without the bad. Bad is necessary apparently. And yea, positivity has a way of growing between people who are exposed to it.

Re: Get better Andy!

Andy pushes himself a bit hard IMO. I know why he does it. Still, I'd like to see him not work so hard. I don't think it's in his nature though. However dodging a bullet like this tends to make...

Re: Get better Andy!

Andy is a multifaceted person. Tough as nails he is. But in a gentlemanly respectful manner. I've seen Andy just be so incredibly generous (giving away beautiful Guru snare drums) to nice everyday...
