Re: Can a very (!) cheap drumset sound ok..?

Can high end recording gear make a cheap drum set sound good? LOL

The Newman mic retails for $850.00. If he's running that type of mic I'd bet the rest of his gear is pretty high end too.

Re: Flaw in Green Glass Glitter finish

I'd pass on that. There are cleaner kits for the same or a lesser price on E bay all the time.

Re: Die cast (again?)

I think drummers are part musician and part mechanic. I'm constantly messing with my gear. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes it more about getting a different sound as opposed to a better sound....

Re: Die cast (again?)

That would probably work. Try it with an Emp and if it's too dry try it with an ambassador.

Re: Die cast (again?)

I just put the DW true hoops on two snares and like em a lot. 90 bucks a set. About the same price as die cast.

Re: Die cast (again?)

I've switched back and forth more times than I can remember but I like flanged hoops better. Gotta try it a see if you like it. Aluminum drums are already dry sounding so you might loose some head...

Re: When did modern drum head become mainstream?

There were diplomats. ambassadors ans emperors in 68/69. Remo also had some sparkle heads in a few colors. I had some blue ones as resos in 68/69,

The CS heads and clears came a little later,

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Installed it a couple days ago and it worked as advertised. one less mic stand to deal with. The Sennheiser E901mic worked out really well. It captures the attack very well but still adds some bottom...

Re: Have you ever have someone in the audience tells you your playing a song wrong?

Maybe a bit off topic but, this guy would show up at random gigs and show me some really cool beats. He just appear every few months. I asked his name and he said it didn't matter. He was always...

Re: 2 up with a 12" tom as the smallest

I use 12 & 14 racks and a 16 FT at times and then I miss the higher pitch of the the 10. You go too big and it can get muddy. Depends on tuning too. Miced or not.

I have a love/hate thing with 10s.

Re: If you had a drum tech, would it change your set-up?

I had roadies for the last ten years of my gigging days. Prior to that I brought all of my best gear to gigs. I did whatever it took, and that's how I ended up with roadies. Who wants to be in a band...

Re: 4-up, 2-down question

Back in my younger days I played 4 up and 1 down. I had 2 rack toms on the kick and 2 more to the right and above the floor tom on a stand. I positioned the ride between the # 2 and # 3 rack toms.
