Re: S-Hoops vs Yamaha Aluminium Cast Hoops

Excellent review, Mike and I generally agree with all of your findings.

I own all three types of hoops on various snares and also have several kits with Yamaha aluminum die cast hoops. They are my...

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

Well, I noticed that the tom arm post on my Sonor Jungle kit was ridiculously long…like I could put the tom up so high I'd need to stand on the throne to hit it kind of high. So I grabbed by handy...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Wow, that looks great and it really compliments your slick setup.
Now bring that to a gig and watch the dancers all watching themselves in your reso head !

Re: Yamaha Live Custom Oak - opinions?

Welcome home. I knew you'd be back , I just knew it!
So after all that…do you prefer Live Oaks or the original Oak Customs?

I have both at the moment , but I think I'll keep the Oak Customs and...

Re: My Signets and the gong

Gong damn it, that's awesome. I am so jealous.
Hang that on a frame and light it on fire!

I could finally do justice to "Africa" if I had one of those :)

Re: Yamaha drum kit, need advice.

Good job. Late to the party but I was going to say that those are decent shells. Very similar to Recording Custom shells, and they are also painted on the inside. I have a 16" vintage Club Custom...

Re: drum fill friday

5/5 !!
Although I admit the metal song was a total guess because I've never heard it before.

Re: I accept defeat.

Thank you. Finally, somebody said it.

I think all of the above is true for rock music and most contemporary styles where you are using a large PA -> large audience/ room

I often see kick +...

Re: Brand Loyalty

No secret that I'm a big Yamaha fan and I participate in discussing all things Yamaha on this website. I do own, and enjoy playing other drums as well. I never push the brand on others.
I see...

Re: So how's this for bitter?

No doubt you can make the D112 work.
I have a pair of the Pro37's as well…they're great.
Also, AT's mic clips are the best!

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Ha, got me! Yeah, that's not right, I love Fiberskyns on almost anything...but especially sparkles and natural finishes. It looks organic on natural wood kits. On sparkles, it adds to the visual wow....

Re: So how's this for bitter?

Just stating personal preferences here Bo…but I wouldn't go the D112 route.
Beta52 / Audix D6 / Beyerdynamic TG-D790D / Sennheiser e902 for more modern type of bass drum mics -
Or RE20/ 421 for...

Re: So how's this for bitter?

No question I went off on somewhat of a tangent. Sorry 'bout that.

That's what happens when you get cabin fever.
I was buried in snow here yesterday. Nowhere to go. Nothing to do.

Busier...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Well, I don't know if it sounds better.
I bought this bass drum as a bare shell for $40, with a 5~6" crack from the bearing edge to where the spur was. Shipping damage.

Brought it to my drum...

Re: Monitoring an SPD-SX

You don't have to use a DI if your preamps have enough gain (most consoles have enough) - but I promise you the pad will sound better through a DI, it's not just level.
Less noise, more fidelity....

Re: So how's this for bitter?

Oh yes yes, 421 = best tom mic ever too. And bass amp.
I could do anything with 2 RE20, four 421 and four 57's

Just curious, do the notoriously horrible 421 integral clip/mounts hold up...

Re: So how's this for bitter?

Big +1 for an EV RE20.
That and a Sennheiser MD421 = my favourite bass drum mics. Not all super hyped / pre EQ'd like modern bass drum mics.

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Finally got around to taking a couple better pictures.
Added a tom mount too. Took my time, marked everything out. Turned out great.

I've not weighed in on this subject up to now….I am in complete agreement with this ^^^^ and also along the lines of what Bermuda is saying.

There are plenty of posers and idiots and wannabes on...
