Re: Going to jams and getting my ass musically kicked is a good thing.

My worst experience has been auditioning for a guy who wants to do a heavy blues type band, where I had to audition songs Ball & Biscuit (White Stripes), Just Got Paid (ZZ Top) and Numb (Gary Clark...

Re: Does playing covers change you?

Playing covers has made me a lot more mature and taught me to look for good in even the very worst songs.

What kills me is playing the same covers every single gig because the other band members...

Re: Neil Peart

With music as complicated as Rush can be, I'm glad it sounds like the CD in a way. It would alienate the listeners.

Same can be said with Portnoy although he did change things up a little bit with...

Re: What's your story about how you started drumming?

This is a fantastic thread and it's been lovely to read everyones stories so far! I'll try and keep mine as short as autistic person can lol.

I used to enjoy listening to music as a child but none...

Re: Tips to help me get in a good quality functions band.

Perhaps I do not know what to expect sound wise but I don't see how I'm meant to hear click properly while hearing the band too. Would a pair of Vic Firth earphones do and have the click going at low...

Tips to help me get in a good quality functions band.

Happy New Year folks!

I'm struggling to get myself into a band that I am happy with playing as I want to be in a functions band. I seem to come across some common obstacles and would like some...

Re: Drummers who play other instruments also....

As others have said it really helps your overall musicianship. It also means in my experience at a gig where a guitarist has snapped a string I've been able to replace it while they play an acoustic...

Re: Advertise your next gig here

Not sure anybody would be willing to see me as I'm in Leicester, England. But The Rebels are playing at The Union Inn in Aylestone.

I'll be playing Rock n Roll by Led Zep for the first time,...

Re: Carmine Appice Lobbies For Led Zeppelin Drum Spot

What Carmine said is just ridiculous. Remember watching the Black Dog cover thinking I could do better than that.

Clearly a fantastic drummer but his head has been stuck where the sun don't shine...

Re: Worst song ever

There are tons of horrible horrible songs that just serve no purpose other than to frustrate musicians world over.

Aqua - Barbie Girl
Fast Food Rockers - The Fast Food Song
Los Del Rio -...

Re: Worst song ever

I would have agreed with you but the song is actually about a stalker following somebody. This is from James Blunts own mouth, so it is slightly unfair to say it's the worse song ever.

Re: Some advice needed re: accuracy of songs

Thanks for the comments guys. It's very confusing because the attitude of so many drummers I've played around all say I am too obsessed with details and that nobody cares.

I don't like the idea...

Re: Giving bandmates rides to gigs!

I'm biased as I don't drive because my Sleep Apnoea makes me so tired at times that I cannot control being awake, so I am medically unsafe to drive.

That said, wherever my wife hasnt been able to...

Re: Learning to play well on a 4 piece kit ....

I must be the only one here who plays a big kit not to be flashy but to literally have different tonal capabilities.

I have auditioned to be in a band which does covers from loads of different...

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

I use a double pedal but sparingly at gigs. I use it for some fills and to accent. For example in Get Lucky - in the middle bit where there is clapping there is an accent on the kick that is probably...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

1. How many bands are you in?

I play in what I will term 1 1/2 bands - The Rebels is a UK based covers band. I am a permanent member of this group.

The other group I play in is called The...
