Re: More experience as a drummer, less muffling of the kit..what does that tell us?

*sigh*

Toms sometimes need to be muffled, and sometimes dont. Dont argue about the sound of drums, they all sound different.

And guys, remember, if it sounds good, it probably is.

Re: THE "BIG" JAZZ THREAD

I absolutley agree. Its something that should definitely be adressed, which doesn't seem to be.

Was the Metheny gig really that bad though? Surprising you were bored sh*tless. I've always thought...

Re: THE "BIG" JAZZ THREAD

Reading some of these very nicely structured posts, I realise I was probably at fault earlier when I made the comment. Kind of Blue, and albums of that era (i reckon before the 70s), were quite one...

Re: THE "BIG" JAZZ THREAD

As above, I dislike the use of "most jazz performances". Jazz is an extremely espressive medium in which dynamics are important. They're not always used, but to disregard their status by saying...

Oh man. Always really wanted to chat with you. Massive fan of Spastic Ink, myself, and your playing is just totally awesome. The technique on Ink Complete and Ink Compatible is just amazing. Please...

Re: Virgil Donati is the Buddy Rich of our time ("IMO"...I suppose)

And that, Finny, is why people are so in love with Gadd. He's got to be the grooviest white guy that ever touched the earth, and just cos his "chops" are not quite as up to standard as the next...

Re: Big kit = small penis? Big kit = big ____

I think doing the "Big Kit" syndrome on Bozzio is really quite unfair. Personally, i don't regard him as a drummer when he plays his solo stuff. He's a percussionist. If he was playing with a band,...

Re: The legendary Steve Gadd.

I think this is hard. I wasn't massively impressed when i first saw videos of him, especially on drummerworld, but as a player and accompanist, Gadd is unique. Gadd has so much groove, it's just...

Re: Double Bass

According to WFD, Tim Waterson is the supposed fastest. However that's only of the people who participate in the competitions, and there are probably woodshedders everywhere who can do 2000 bpm on...

Re: Who is your favorite drummer(s)

I wont go into detail on the jazz and early guys, damn there's just too many, i'll just stick to modern. I'd say my absolute top guys are.

Weckl
Gadd
Vinnie
Donati

(these guys just have...

Music tracks minus drums... ( Drumless or Play-along Tracks )

Anyone have any of these? It would be cool to collect together some sort of library of things to play along to.

Cheers,

Re: Stick Twirling

Yeah, that is pretty true.

I still reckon it's cool to be able to do it even if you don't use it that much.

Re: Double Bass Chops

Here are a few i do.

We all do paradiddles, but it's cool to experiment, and see what you can come up with. A drum teacher i once had taught me a rudement called the compound paradiddle, which...

Re: Tre' Cool?

I think the guy is cool from the point that is great at playing good time, in the pocket. Greenday's music, on the other hand, i can't stand. It's good to hear someone in the nu-punk genre with some...

Re: Best drumming album of all time?

Cool, but not the best. Although I love Cliff/Smitty's playing on that album, a lot of it is really quite busy, when it shouldn't. Saying that, Caribe is a masterpiece.

...

It's so hard to...
