Re: My thoughts and guide to drum tuning (long)

Those tight screws are interesting, how well do they work? (How much longer do they keep the head in tune compared to not using them?)

I bought a drum set about six months ago and I'm definitely...

Re: Book recommendations

Well, I do want to develop four way coordination, but if I can learn some useful jazz patterns at the same time I would be inclined to pick Chapin's book.

Re: is there something wrong with my technique??

There's definitely something wrong. The fact that its hurting ten minutes afterward is not good at all. I can't really think of anything that could be wrong with the practice pad or sticks that would...

Book recommendations

Hi,

I've lately been looking for a book focusing on coordination and independence. I've been drumming for over a year now and I think I have pretty good coordination for the amount of time I've...

Independence exercises?

Hey,

Lately, I've become interested in polyrhythms and I've been practicing a few simple ones like a 3/8 or 5/8 ostinato over a 4/4 groove. I was wondering if anyone has any good exercises...

Re: Drum Tuning Question

Thanks for your reply.

Another quick question:

My kit is a Tama Imperialstar that is about four months old, give or take, and still has the generic heads that came with it. Do you think these...

Drum Tuning Question

Hey,

I started experimenting with tuning my drums recently. I've only been playing for a year now, so I haven't really experimented with tuning in the past, but now that I've had my own kit for...

Jazz music/drummer recommendations

Hey all,

I am a rock fan just starting to get into jazz music and drumming. Could some jazz players recommend some good jazz music to start listening to? (Artists, groups, bands, albums, songs,...

Re: Neil Peart

Yeah, I found that link, too, through Google.

I like his earlier kits a lot better than his newer ones. Having all of the unusual percussion instruments as physically part of his kit, in my...

Re: Gladstone vs. Moeller

No, I'm pretty sure it refers to the rebound or legato stroke.

Re: Mixing Brands Drums/Cymbals/Hardware

Yeah, I feel the same way, especially about cymbals. Looking at a kit with a ton of different cymbal logos around it bothers me slightly for some reason.

In terms of other gear, it doesn't...

Re: Just a small question out of curiosity

Hmm, I thought that they would have sold fairly well. For instance, if you wanted to have 3 rack toms, but thought an 8" was too small and 13" too large, you could have 10, 11, and 12.

Anyway...

Just a small question out of curiosity

Hey everyone,

I'm not looking to buy new drums any time soon, but I just have a quick question about rack tom sizes.

A couple days ago, I was browsing Remo's website and saw that some heads,...

Re: Matched Grip vs. Traditional Grip: Pro's and Con's?

That's only in German grip. Buddy was using French grip there.

Re: 3 over 4 Mike Johnston

I'm by no means an expert on this kind of stuff, but it sounds like he was playing quarter notes on left hand in 4. So, 1 2 3 4 on the left hand, easy. What the right hand was doing I am not certain,...

Re: Looking for a great, in depth DVD to hand technique, power, speed, and control

Thanks guys for the all the feedback!

As of now I think I'm leaning towards "Secret Weapons" but farther down the road I'll probably end up getting more of the ones metioned.

Peace.
