Re: What happened to larger drums?

I guess I am of the opposite view. I had a 1990's Tama Artstar with power sizes and HATED IT. it just sounded loud and rumbly. I never felt like i could get an identifiable pitch out of them.

Re: Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

A little at a time is how I worked my way up my Masters Custom set last time around. So that's my plan here. Build up my collection of hardware and pro-level cymbals again. Funny thing is, I am...

Re: Pearl Reference, Tama StarClassic Bubinga, or DW Collector Maple?

The reference series does not appeal to me. I'm a bit of a purist in that I don't want my kit made of different materials. I understand Pearl's reasoning, but just not something I would put much...

Re: Pearl Reference, Tama StarClassic Bubinga, or DW Collector Maple?

Have you checked out the Pearl Master series? Give them a listen as well. Excellent attention to detail and build quality plus the best sounding kit I have played.

Used to be The John Reilly Band, they now go by Reilly.

Re: I need some advice on upgrading my drums from Ludwigs to Tamas...?

Well I never like the artstars much. But the Master Custom would be my first choice anyday. As I said, the accent custom can be made to sound quite good.

As for the toms, in an ideal world you...

Re: I need some advice on upgrading my drums from Ludwigs to Tamas...?

Hey man, I beginning to feel like a sob story and I'm new here :) Don't feel too bad for me, I do like the ludwig kit now. I've had a pearl master kit and Tama artstars, so I've had some great kits....

Re: I'm torn.

Bands are almost always temporary. The best you can do is try and preserve your friendships, as those are things to hold on to. Be honest about it, and if you can stay on until a replacement can be...

Re: Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

I have to say I think I underestimated this kit. I spent a few hours playing today and I am no longer lamenting not buying the Yamaha kit. After lubing each lug and tension rod, replacing all all...

Re: Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

Well I got the new resonant heads on and spend about 3 hours tuning. Honestly, it sounds very good. The only thing I hate is the snare throw.....everything else is ok. I need to find a strainer with...

Re: Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

Yeah I could have gone cheaper, but not for all birch shells. Heck I have seen TAMA Imperial star kits go for more than that!

I'll go over to Guitar Center and get a new hoop tonight. My...

Re: Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

It is triple flanged steel and I tried bending it, but it seemed I was just bending it other ways than I wanted. I can get a replacement hoop for $15, so that's not the end of the world.

Funny...

Re: Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

That's what I feared. The thing is I paid $489 for this kit w/ hardware brand new, so it was priced well. The Yamaha bothered me in that the snare was only 8 lugs and they chose not to use any...

Re: Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect the same level as the masters kit. That kit was pretty much flawless and every detail was thought out. For what I need now, the masters kit would be overkill. I...

Buyers reomorse.....how bad did I screw up?

So here is my tale. I have been playing for close to 20 years now. I played seriously and started out as a music major in college, but changed to IT. Continued to play in several bands and recorded a...
