Re: Buddy Rich Ends the Show Mid-Solo

Firing someone on the bandstand doesn't seem entirely unreasonable, but pulling disrespectful stunts like stopping the show in the middle of a solo is pretty lame. That's exactly the kind of stunt...

Re: Can you read sheet music?

I hate to be the one to ask you this pgm554, but have you accidentally wandered into 2015 from a wormhole to the past? It's OK if you have, we just need to figure out how to send you back is all.

Re: How to play 4 against 7

That's exactly why it's a polyrhythm. A polyrhythm is also known as a "measure preserving polymeter", the clue being that both rhythms have been written to fit inside the same measure length. The 4...

Re: My personal list of rock and roll's top cowbell moments

These are exactly the two songs my band started covering once I got my cowbell and we were searching around for more songs to use it in! The song I got the cowbell for in the first place is Me and...

Re: Do you plan your fills?

Your mileage may vary, but I personally think that more important than planning specific fills is deciding on the style and length of fills you're going to be using throughout the song. You could try...

Re: Cheap recording/editing program?

I'll second this suggestion. In my opinion it offers by the far the best cost to value ratio of any DAW. If you're looking to save money but still need some power then it's your best bet.

Re: The power of smiling

I have a nice story about smiling behind the kit.

In September last year my band was playing at an open mic night, and it was the first time we had performed in public as a whole band, even if it...

Re: Website Issue

It's a "feature" with the way IE handles iframes - it inserts the requested URL into the browser's history when the iframe navigates to a new place (which I believe it does in this case when the DNS...

That'd definitely make for some interesting sheet music - what a fabulous solo!

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

I'm not at all suggesting a practice pad as an introduction to drumming, that would be insane! The introduction should be finding a teacher and going to a few lessons before any gear is bought.

Re: What's your take on electronic drum sets?

For anyone just starting out I would recommend not even getting a kit yet. For beginners I would suggest purchasing a practice pad and sticks. That is all someone needs to get started practicing at...

Re: Need help translating from guitarist to drummer

I'm also in an rock cover band of the same era, and apart from metronomic rhythm, my tips would be:
Make sure you look like you're enjoying yourself while playing. Chances are you may be...

Re: where can I buy quality sheet music?

Drumscore is largely ok but I have noticed at least a couple of errors in all the transcriptions I have purchased from there (of which I have seven). If you want you can check out the free ones...

I say go for it. I'm sure your daughters will be absolutely mortified now but in a few years time they'll realise just how cool you actually are!

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

Thank you for illustrating my point! Triplets have a well-defined meaning, and it is not "three notes that go together".

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

Well it always comes back to the same argument. It doesn't matter what time signature it's in because it sounds the same anyway. You could technically notate it as 6/8, as 12/8, as 4/4 with triplets...

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

I'd also like to point out something that indicates you might be confused about this yourself.

If the ride/snare was each quarter note then you'd have 3 in a bar of 6/8, or to put it another...

Re: Argument with Guitarist over time signature

Technically they're only triplets if you're playing them in 4/4 time. Triplets of any sort in compound time would not work as you've described.

Anyway, from only hearing the description of the...

Re: Prog to isolate drum tracks from a mix?

Close, Guitar Hero was entirely covers, Guitar Hero II was largely covers with some original masters used, Guitar Hero III and Rock Band 1 were largely originals with some covers, and Rock Band 2/3...

Re: How do you guys learn songs ?

When I have some songs to learn I'll put them in a playlist and listen to them on repeat for a couple of commutes. Then, I'll sit down at the computer with headphones on and open up a new document (I...

Re: Freehand Technique by Johnny Rabb

I was taught the basics of this technique in my first lesson with my new teacher about three weeks ago, and struggled to grasp it at the time. I was interested in it though, and did my own research...

Re: Hit like a girl

While I'm not a woman myself, there are many reasons why some women like female-only competitions, and I'm not talking strictly about only drumming here. A major reason is that in co-ed competitions,...

Re: Wearing hearing protection issue

I always wear hearing protection. I can't be in the same room with just someone playing a snare drum without wincing from the hard hits, so my ER20s serve me very well indeed. If you get funny looks,...

Q: Why are many of the...

Re: The definition of a "good drummer"

I think that with anything in this world, the different level of skill you have with something will inform your own criteria for determining whether or not someone else is also good at that thing.
