Re: The next generation....

My nephew! ;)

Crikey, James, I've never been so glad that my daughters weren't interested in drumming. I don't think I'd have taken kindly to being outshone by them!

Re: A Guru artist in North Wales

Ah, you see, lovely Liam isn't actually a Guru artiste - though he is something of an ambassador, as his walnut snare went on his recent European tour and I wouldn't be surprised if the popcorn went...

Re: A Guru artist in North Wales

Yep, it is. Not sure when dear David will be here again though; maybe Easter time. Of course you don't have to wait for him to show his handsome face though!

Re: A Guru artist in North Wales

You most certainly do! I can offer you a crappy kit, horrendous cymbals and the most gorgeous snare in the whole world. Deal? - On a more serious note, it's several worlds away from the other jam...

A Guru artist in North Wales

A couple of months ago, a new jam night started up near me, and it's been great fun although it's often been oddly drummer-heavy, which is one reason why we usually have two kits. (The other reason...

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

That's a jolly good idea. I don't think I'd mind if anybody adjusted my e-kit. I knew I shouldn't have sold mine, but if I hadn't I wouldn't have my favourite kit. Life, eh.

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

I take the kit I don't like and my crappiest cymbals to our jam night. Yesterday I had the pleasure of having an expert tell me the bass drum batter head could do with tightening and that the spurs...

Re: LDS - Superb drums & rhythm tap - video.

Philatelist!

Andy, it was great to see that again. Seeing it live was a bit mind-blowing, especially when I was somewhat star-struck (bless me), so watching it with a bit more detachment has, if...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

She does indeed, and not for the first time.

FOF Duncan's post below, one of my transgender friends (who hasn't completed transition yet) had an experience the other day which upset her...

Re: Question about early beginner progression.

Don't worry about getting faster: that will happen by itself as your muscle memory improves. We all want to play faster but paradoxically, slow practice is the quickest way to get faster. Relaxed...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Mmhmm, I think I can get behind "equivalent" pretty well, as long as it doesn't have that feeling of "nearly-but-not-quite" which it sometimes has.

Re: Question about early beginner progression.

^^^ This.

I'm working through a book at the moment in which it is suggested that I play each exercise x number of times. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I play an exercise LOADS of...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I do want perfectly equal, but not necessarily exactly the same.

I also feel uncomfortable being on the receiving end of chivalrous gestures. I appreciate being helped if I'm struggling with...

Re: I'm starting to enjoy myself :)

I know - I was empathising! Sorry if I sounded a bit negative.

Here's one of the more manic/punky tracks from last night's rehearsal (opening double - triplet bass drum part is a bitch to get...

Re: I'm starting to enjoy myself :)

As I'm not the target audience either, it'll go down a storm! It's everything I don't understand, so I admire you immensely for being a much, much bigger person than I am and going for it.

I...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

You're both right.

The point is that we should become aware of those attitudes and behaviours we have that we are NOT aware of, that if we were, wouldn't sit comfortably with the attitudes and...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Couldn't agree more. It's all of us doing it, women as well as men, and we'll all go on doing it until we make a conscious decision to stop.

Update on Low-Level Guy: I've seen him twice since...

Re: Got the shakes

Well, it's over, you did your bit - heroically, by the sound of things! - and nobody got hurt.

I can sense your frustration, but I'm very glad you've been able to focus on some big positives.

My dear James, what can I say: you really rock that look!

Seriously though (not that I'm not serious about rocking that look), a great big Well Done. I hate it when the drums aren't in the right...
