Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

Couldn't agree more! Our job is to support the band and keep time. I'm okay with that!!

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

Magenta - I'm looking into portable e-kits to bring to jams and open mics where there isn't a kit available. The Roland TD-4KP is at the top of my list because of maximum portability and weight, but...

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

All of these posts have prompted me to re-think my approach to Open Jams entirely. Now I'll just go in with the idea that my goal is to become more versatile, (instead of necessarily do justice to...

Re: Harvard study of time keeping and groove

Of COURSE people are turned off by the attempted humanization of computer generated music!! And I have a suggestion for Holger Henning, Eric Heller and anybody else researching the most effective way...

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

I really enjoyed it! I thought the acting was superb and the script was decent given the theme, which has been done over and over and over again. I know we're all drummers here but if you plan on...

Re: Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

Thanks everybody. Your comments are much appreciated and the response is exactly as I thought it would be : Bad Form all around. I never adjust anything on another drummers kit. Guess I'll just run...

Drum Etiquette at Open Jams

Every Open Jam I have ever attended where there's a Host Band with a kit set up I find the drummer only sets up one rack tom. Most of these seem to be hosted by Blues bands but since I prefer to play...

Re: Drum Corps Training

YES, YES! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! I really wanted to hear from some of our Drum Corps trained members to see if what I was feeling was on track or not. I'll check out the guy from AIM for sure...

Re: Drum Corps Training

Sorry but I don't know how to quote from multiple sources so I'll just try to lay it out: PFOG-The main difference is his focus on technique. Absolute precision with how the stroke is executed, the...

Drum Corps Training

I've recently started with a new instructor who has a serious drum corps background. In fact, he currently teaches at a local high school here during the season. Anyway, I knew about that before I...

Re: Drumless track redux - guess the song!

Sounds a bit like My Sharona but don't think the tempo is quite fast enough. How about a little clue/hint?

Re: Expect band mates to help unload kit

I realize it was an audition so that's a little different but when they didn't offer, I probably would have asked if for no other reason than to keep to the schedule if it was tight. As far as set...

Re: Question about drumming and dancing

That pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject. Coordination, limb independence. the ability to keep time are all important in dancing as well. That's why I'm a little surprised with the answers...

Re: Sound guy rant

It happens. We were at a festival two weeks ago where the bands rotated through a single stage with a single so called "sound guy" for the entire event. He was terrible: inconsistent, unavailable and...

Re: First gig tips??

Definately check out the lighting level before hand if you refer to notes, tabs or music. My night vision is horrible so if I have any written info that I need to refer to and I know I'm playing in...

Re: Advice for my future! lol!!

There are many musician networking sites here in the Atlanta area so I would imagine there are in your area as well. Just do a search; prepare to spend some time following leads. Good luck!

Re: Recommended Metronome?

I use a cheap metronome that doesn't play in stereo through ear buds or isolation headphones. Hence I can't hear it over the drums. I just run that sucker through my pa system and crank it up....

Re: A great girl band, Cee Lo performs FU live.

I think the drummer is Taylor "Pocket Queen" Gordon. If someone could confirm or deny this, please do so.

Re: How to jam...?

Oh, and Larry, the songs would most definately be agreed upon before hand. I am a recovering perfectionist and would never go in unprepared. I will post my playing as soon as I can. Looking forward...

Ok, two points first of all:

1) I DO wear underwear! (Sorry guys) Can't recall the particular thread but I believe I was just trying to get a rise out of some joker who was ultimately banned from...

Re: How to jam...?

*&%n it Larry! You know me too well. Thanks for calling me on this. I DID say I wouldn't be embarassed, and I wouldn't. I would however, be "Self Conscience". Is that the same thing? Am I fooling...

Re: How to jam...?

Although I'm not as young as your son, I can relate in the sense that I haven't been playing long. I'm frequently hit with requests to play but quite frankly, I think I have a long way to go. Perhaps...
