Re: Hoops

Agree on all points! They look really cool, and I have wood hoops on two snares. The only real difference to me is the cross stick sound, which may or may not suit the music. For other playing (even...

Re: Dunnett Snare Drums

The drums I have played have all been excellent, I'd especially would like to have one of the titanium 6"x14". Lightweight, versatile and great looking drums.

Though, I have to admit I'm not...

Re: Should I buy this 28" kick drum?

Definitely a cool drum (though the broken lug is a bummer). But personally I'd hav to pass because I cold never bring it to a gig in my car. (And my small drum room is already quite crowded.) Yes,...

Re: Quick fix for your OLD rattling KickPort

Because you don't like it or because you will buy a new? Honest question.

I haven't tried for myself, mostly because I'm quite happy with the way my drums sound but also because I find the theory...

Re: Vintage Tama Superstar

I had one of these super maple finished Superstar kits (including a 8" and 10") in the 80's and the were indeed great drums. Unfortunately I had to sell them to finance some travelling...

The only...

Re: Worst expensive kit you ever played?

Properly tensioned fresh heads are usually all that is needed to get a decent sound. Then add a great player, and hey presto!

Too bad I'm not a great player.

Re: Buying new snare but which one?

This topic ("Buying new snare but which one?")... Isn't that more of a constant state of mind for all drummers?

Re: Looking for a bass pedal - need recommendations

If you like the Jojo pedal (which I do), you should give the recently re-issued Yamaha FP-720 a try. As simple as it gets. Super smooth. Really reliable (I have used mine almost daily for almost 40...

Re: Yamaha Recording customs

What color is it? If you want to add or replace some tom, or re-sale the kit, the color may make a huge difference on the price.

Black is a classic, should be easy to find and will sell quick....

Re: Gretsch Renown RN2 or Yamaha Live Custom

The gig may call for a Gretsch, but the Yamahas will never let you down.

Re: Stage Customs - Larger sizes or the smaller sizes?

For a gig kit, go 20 + 14. Easy to get good sound, better for your back.

Re: Are Japanese built recording custom Yamahas the best all around kit?

Is it that bad? I know they have had a hard time finding distributors, but haven't heard that they were going out of business. Sad, the drums are great (though with silly names).

Re: Roto toms?

Lots of attack and, as you will only get a head sound, very dependent on the type of head you use. I think they sound great, especially smaller sizes with pinstripes.

Re: Tarnished/spotted bronze and brass snares

It is probably just me, but I actually prefer unfinished brass because it looks soo good when it ages. Fingerprints, spots and all.

Re: Mixing Maple and Birch drums?

For the sound? No problems.

For the looks? Some might have objections to mixing lugs and colors.

Re: Summer NAMM

I guess this is because the Summer NAMM is often quite dull (companies tend to avoid releasing news in the middle of the summer). Never been to Nashville NAMM though, so this is just what I have...

Re: New Yamaha RC : Walnut or Real Wood ?

Great, as expected! Yes the lugs are really nice on the 8000, like a RC without all the extra metal attached.
Missing badges? Due to restoration? And is that a sticker (on top of the finish) on that...

Re: New Yamaha RC : Walnut or Real Wood ?

Congrats to a great kit (even though I voted for the other finish)!

An 8000 kit in good condition and nice sizes is a rare find; a way underrated series in my opinion (especially in RW). Do...
